Hey Henker du kriegst Silber
Gib mir dafur Zeit
Siehst du meinen Vater kommen
Er bringt Gold und kauft mich frei
Sohn, ich bring kein Silber
Und ich hab nie was gestohlen
Du weißt ich hab nichts
Um dich vom Galgen zu holen

Hey Henker hab noch Gnade
Warte `n halben Tag
Mein reicher Freund bringt dir
Soviel er tragen kann
Er bringt dir `n bißchen Silber
Er bringt dir `n bißchen Gold
Er bringt dir `n bißchen irgendwas
Um mich vom Galgen zu holen

Hey spiele um mein Leben, Vater
Halt den Henker auf
Seh mein Freund am Horizont
Hat was er hat verkauft
Endlich bringst du Silber
Hast Gold fur mich gestohlen
Bist tagelang umhergerannt
Willst mich vom Galgen holen

Ich bring` dir doch kein Silber
Ich will dir kein Gold geben
Ich komm` nur eben mal vorbei
Will dich am Galgen sehn
Von mir kriegst du kein Silber
Von mir kriegst du kein Gold
Dich am Galgen hangen sehn
Ist alles was ich wollt`

Er kommt nur um mich hang` zu sehn
Gott hilf mir, er will mich hangen sehn

[English translation] The Gallows

Hey hangman, you're getting silver
Give me time for it
Look my father is coming
He's bringing gold to buy my freedom
Son, I'm not bringing silver
I have never stolen anything
You know I have nothing
With which to fetch you from the gallows

Hey hangman, have mercy
Wait half a day
My rich friend is bringing you
everything he can carry
He's bringing you a bit of silver
He's bringing you a bit of gold
He's bringing you a bit of something
With which to fetch me from the gallows

Hey play for my life father
Stop the hangman
See my friend on the horizon
Has what he has bought
Finally you bring silver
Have stolen gold for me
Ran around for days on end
Do you want to fetch from the gallows

But I'm not bringing you silver
I don't want to give you gold
I'm just coming round
I want to see you on the gallows
You're not getting silver from me
You're not getting gold from me
To see you at the gallows is all I wanted

He's only coming to see me hanged
God help me he wants to see me hanged

I like this song: It's about a selfish man who thinks mony can buy anything and anyone. As death awaits him he thinks his friends will bribe the hangman to let him go, but in the end they all turn away from him and even come to enjoy his deserved execution.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America.
