I can't take this emptiness inside
I need you by my side
And I can't take the restless nights
It's tearing me apart, all of our fights

Do you still love me
Or did I mess everything up
When everyone else is gone
Will I be the one you turn to?

No more feelings to ignore
There is no trust anymore
I let you down
Why do I do these things?

You have my heart
I want it back someday
But you can keep it if you promise not to hurt it

Do you still love me
Or did I mess everything up
When everyone else is gone
Will I be the one you turn to?

A thousand questions on my mind
I'm waiting here for you to find
Will you reach out and hold on?
A thousand emotions run under my skin
When you come to me I'll let you in
Why is that so wrong?

It's not my fault this feeling surrounds me
You mesmerize and make me believe
You're all I need
Am I what you want
Will I succeed?
Should I ply open your eyes
To make you realize
That I need you more and more
Or should I just open your ears
And let you hear these tears
As they accumulate on the floor

Do you still love me
Or did I mess everything up
When everyone else is gone
Will I be the one you turn to?

I'm so afraid to lose
Everything we held on to
Will memories just slip
Leaving me alone to remenisce
The times when all I thought about was you
Or will we come back strong
And prove the others wrong
As I look into your face
And hold you in a tight embrace
You're proof that dreams do come true

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.

Page

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
