You must treat your lover girl right
If you wanna make lover's rock
You must know a place you can kiss
To make lover's rock

Everybody knows it's a crying shame
But nobody knows the poor baby's name
When she forgot that thing that she had
Yeah to swallow

Oh you Western man, you're free with your seed
When you make lover's rock
But woops, there goes the strength that you need
To make real cool lover's rock

A genuine lover takes off his clothes
And he can make a lover in a thousand go's
An' she don't need that thing that she had
Yeah to swallow, know what I mean? Oh

Yeah, you must treat your lover girl right
To make lover's rock
You must know a place you can kiss
To make lover's rock

Everybody knows it's a crying shame
But nobody knows the poor baby's name
When she forgot that thing that she had
Oh to swallow, hey

Whose rock? They call it "Lover's Rock"
Whose rock? They call it "Lover's Rock"
Whose rock? They call it "Lover's Rock"
Whose rock? They call it "Lover's Rock"
Whose rock? They call it "Lover's Rock"
Whose rock? They call it "Lover's Rock"

Whose rock? They call it "Lover's Rock"
Whose rock? They call it "Lover's Rock"
Whose rock? They call it "Lover's Rock"
Whose rock? They call it "Lover's Rock"
Whose rock? They call it "Lover's Rock"

Whose rock? They call it "Lover's Rock"
Whose rock? They call it "Lover's Rock"
Whose rock? They call it "Lover's Rock"

    Song Meaning

this song is written about a book called "the tao of love and sex" which joe strummer recommends to a "boy trying to become a man." the book is about how to prevent ejaculations to pleasure the woman more and to conserve your chi. that's why when the western man is free with his seed he loses the strength he needs to make real cool lovers rock. but a genuine lover takes off his clothes and she doesn't need to take the pill because he can control himself. that's the meaning.

Yeah.....I think what makes this song so great is how many different interpretations you can get from it. I think the "to swallow" line is literally about the pill.....but the allusion to the Grand Finale of oral sex was obviously intentional. It's what makes this song so great!!

I think it's about the difference in casual sex and relationship sex as someone pointed out above. In the first verse, it's all about casual sex and one of the possible negative outcomes...stuck with baby.

In the second, it's all about monogamous sex. And the Western/Eastern thing relates to the Eastern sexual philosophy of holding in ejaculation to hold in strength (Tantra or something....I don't know)...or not having sex as frequently...

"You Western man, you're free with your seed When you make lovers rock But woops! there goes the strength that you need To make real cool lovers rock"

    Great song!

It seems to me that they make people think that this song is about oral sex on purpose but that the real meaning is that the guy should wear a rubber even if his girlfriend takes the pill, cause they may end up with a baby anyway. And if they do, they may not know how to raise and care and their baby'll have a miserable life...

to me this song always ment that, sex is to make love to someone you love..not only a pleasure for the man (oralsex) but two persons who give eatchother themselves (takes of his clothes).. but i agree with all of you. i mean..a song means different for each person..and i think you're having a point there with the baby and the pill. But then we are there again with the meaning that the man is responsible too..hope i made myself clear..

i think the songs about the difference between true love and just some one night stand or some shit.. if he really loves her, he makes love to her (genuine lover takes off his clothes) as opposed to some guy just gettin a bj. and if a girl finds a genuine guy who loves her, "she don't need that thing that she had to swallow". i think you know what that is....

If the oral sex thing would be right, i dont understand this line, it seems not to have something to do with oral sex

'Cause everybody knows it's a crying shame But nobody knows the poor babie's name When she forgot that thing that she had to swallow

it seems not to have something to do with oral sex, i never heard about someone getting babies because oral sex. however, it could be about oral sex, that was the first thing i thought when i heard it first time. but now i think its about rubbers and pills, and how people make babies, though they cant care for them.

I definitely think this song is about how you shouldn't rely on the pill, because the girl might forget it and then end up pregnant.

"'Cause everybody knows it's a crying shame But nobody knows the poor babie's name When she forgot that thing that she had to swallow"

I think this part is about the fact that she forgot the pill, got pregnant & then had an abortion. something like that. xD

This is a heaps good song.

From the 25th London Calling Anniversary booklet:

"This song is a book that we tried to concentrate into two verses- The book is called "The Tao of Love & Sex by "......(doesnt say in the booklet but i assume, Jolan Chang)" It's a thin book and a good one to get if you are a boy trying to be a man"- Joe Strummer

Seems to me that it's about the difference between casual sex and a lasting relationship.

I think its about the pill and how she forgot to take it and they ended up with a baby. "'Cause a genuine lover takes off his clothes And he can make a lover in a thousand go's An' she don't need that thing that she had to swallow "

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
