Picture myself as a thin white child
Back to the day I was born on
They slapped me into line as it crossed my mind
I've felt better
I've felt worse
This is my life and it's all very well but never again
As they say "we've been robbed"
And don't you know that this time
Love, just love yourself like no one else
Love, it's enough
They can say what they like but they still can't take that
Distance myself from the things I'd like but
Everyone has something I need
Don't let me wake up & find
All those others leaving me behind
If you don't have a clue about life
Then I'm happy to say neither have I
Although I'm not going to shrug my shoulders & suck my thumb
This time
'cause there's something I deserve
Love, just love yourself like no one else
Love, it's enough
They can say what they like but they still can't take that
Picture my house in a postcard town
Picture a bomb in the sky
History at the door who could ask for more?
I've felt better
So kill me with love
Just love yourself like no one else
Time's so scarce where I come from
Let them say what they like 'cause they still can't take your love

Isn't this such a feel good song? "Love, just love yourself like no one else. Love, it's enough!" It just makes me want to be nothing but positive.

    Memory

I remember spotting this song on a VHS I left recording MTV accidently overnight, back in 96... I was a teen and was very depressed that day - but then I saw the video for "Love"... Probably my favourite Sundays song ever.

    My Interpretation

Some people as saying this is a positive uplifting song, but it's actually a sad song as well. I think this song is about a person that was born with something wrong with them, like an illness of some sort. They are saying "No matter how bad things get for me, I won't lose my love for myself... but, I'm not going to live very long."

"They slapped me into line as it crossed my mind." I think this means, I thought about ending my life, but was talked out of it."

"I've felt better, I've felt worse" Indicates there's some kind of illness.

"This is my life and it's all very well but never again " Meaning, this is the life I have, but I wouldn't want to go through this again.

"As they say, we've been robbed" This person was "robbed" of a normal life.

"I'm not going to shrug my shoulders & suck my thumb" - As bad as my life is, I'm not giving up.

"Picture my house in a postcard town, Picture a bomb in the sky" - Yes, I'm alive and I love myself, but it's all about to end.

"Time's so scarce where I come from" - Indicates the person is near death.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
