Baby, I see you've made yourself all sick again
Didn't I do a good job of pretending?
Baby, you're saying that the victim doesn't want it to end
Good. I get to dress up and play the assassin again
It's my favorite

It's got personality
I should have seen this shit coming down the hall
Every night I spent in that bed with you facing the wall
If I could have only once heard you scream

To say you were alive
Instead of watching you abandoning yourself

Baby, you can open your eyes now
And please allow me to present you with a clue
If I inflict the pain
Then baby only I can comfort you, yeah

Out of the night we come
And into the night we go
If it starts to hurt you
Then you have to say so

cover of the afghan whigs song by the same name. go pick up the afghan whigs album "gentlemen" at your local record store. the version on the album will BLOW YOU AWAY. seriously, i love the guk and the na's but i have to say that the afghan whigs are amazing and much more talented than the musicians in the aforementioned bands.

Does this song have anything to do with Lord Byron's poem, When We Two Parted? Great peom, not-so-bad song.

this song reminds me of a old friend i had, we were so close and he was just going to hell with me aaround, i eventualy had to let go ...hence "if I inflict the pain then baby only I can comfort you" i thought if i was causing all of the shat, that mabee i can fix it ...we both got emotionaly damaged in the end

a boy put it on a mix tape for my sister that found it's way into my car: the only song that caught my attention, and did it. i guessed it was matt pryor's voice but only just now found out the name of the song. brilliant, brilliant, moving, beautiful, brilliant.

to me...it sounds like a guy is in a relationship with a girl who has no self esteem. and that guy is probably pretty emotionally abusive, he might not intend to be so abusive to the girl but he can't help it because of his own weakness. and becuase she wont say anything it keeps building up to a point where she breaks down. then he realizes what hes done for the moment, apologizes and comforts her, and then the cycle resumes.

i've been that guy and this song makes me cry every time i hear it.

Ministry
Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
