One devotion to an empty moment
Can't you stay tonight?
Silence broken with words unspoken
Now she's on her knees

No more feeling so useless
Can I beg for one more she said
Taking with arms wide open
Longing for sleep again

The air is clearing
Again, we're breathing
Water turns to wine
The day is tired, the night inside her
Now she is alive

Keep breathing to feel something
Take my breath away
(She prays the silence will stop and take her breath away)
(I pray the silence will stop and take my breath away)

No more feeling so useless
Can I beg for one more she said
Taking with arms wide open
Longing for sleep again

But now, I'm awake
But now, I'm awake

My interpretation of this song is that is of a turbulent relationship. "One devotion with empty moments" could mean that when things seem fine, they are in fact empty, of holding things inside and lying to each other. "Silence broken with words unspoken/ Now she's on her knees." Their peace and silence is broken by a fight, even one without words. She begs him for forgiveness, or begs him to change, or something. "Can I beg for one more she says," she just wants things to be the way they were, even though they could not be. "The air is clearing again/ We're breathing, water turns to wine." THey see each other and their relationship clearly, but they are soon intoxicated in the familiarity ("Water turns to wine?") "THe day is tired, the night is inside her/ Now she is alive, no more feeling useless" THis could mean that the unsatisfied peace is ending and they are fighting again. "Taking with arms wide open, longing for sleep again" He just takes it and wants to get past the fight for the peace. Of course i could be totally wrong, this is only my interpretation. It could be about sex... Think about it: "Now she's on her knees"

To be honest, I think it's about a one night stand! lol I mean "One devotion with empty moments", "Now she's on her knees 'Til i'm feeling so useless" "We're breathing, water turns to wine The day is tired, the night's inside her" I dunno, maybe it's just me, heh.

Ok Fletch...thanks for your um..."insightful" comment, but I'm going to have to disagree in some aspects. Ok first off, this song is NOT about sex (um...yea this comment is mostly for princess) I give Finch enough credit to not be that obvious and slightly deep enough to have alternative meanings for their lyrics. Now songs are open to interpretation, but I think what this song meaning is clear: it is about forgiveness. So the girl has definitly hurt the guy "Keep breathing to feel something /Take my breath all away". And he confronts her, bringing everything into the open: "Can you stay tonight?/Silence broken with words unspoken...The air is clearing again". Now the lines, "Now she's on her knees" and "Can I beg for one more she says" has NOTHING TO DO WITH FELLATIO! Its not her getting on her knees to suck dick, its her begging for his forgiveness. And begging for one more isn't referring to her eagerness to give head (like some ppl fletch ;}), its her begging for one more chance. Ok the water into wine part...clearly a biblical allusion. At a wedding in the city of Galilee, Jesus turned water into wine (John 2:9). This is considered to be Jesus's first sign of "glory" that proved to his desciples that he was the true Messiah, sent by God to forgive their sins. And since Jesus is considered by billions around the world today as the absolver of sins it is clear that the writer of the song is mentioning something he did in reference to forgiveness. So without a doubt this song is about forgiveness NOT sex. She hurt him and lied about it, she's begging for forgiveness and another chance and he wants to forgive her but is unsure if that is possible for him to do.

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
