"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
As I look round this make shift moving house
I'm searching for whatever's left of me
It's on the ground in a box that reads lost and found
It's lost and found
She said, just let it go
She said, it's all you've ever known
And I'm, I'm already gone
I'm already something to someone that I don't know
When will I know?
And I'm, I'm out making rounds
On every side of town
That I've been through, that I know
To find my reason to come back home
I've worked it out you'll always bring me down
From here on out I'm doing things for me
I'm impatient now I'm not the type for life alone,
I need someone
She said, just let it go
She said, it's all you've ever know
And I'm, I'm already gone
I'm already something to someone that I don't know
When will I know?
And I'm, I'm out making rounds
On every side of town
That I've been through, that I know
To find my reason to come back home
With everything that sets me back,
I push back harder to clear the way
There's not a thing that I regret,
Can't live my life in yesterday
With everything that sets me back,
I push back harder to clear the way
There's not a thing that I regret,
Can't live my life in yesterday
Life in yesterday
And I'm, I'm already gone
I'm already something to someone that I don't know
When will I know?
And I'm, I'm out making rounds
On every side of town
That I've been through, that I know
To find my reason to come back home

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
Alright feel free to correct me if you believe that i am wrong but what i think this song is talking about is maybe a relationship that went down in the wrong way and they may have split ways and now that the woman is getting on her feet she wants to come back or he wants to get back together and the opposite partner is saying " i can
t , I
ve already moved on " this saying the part where the song says " Im already something to someone that i don
t know" and it may be apologizing for the relationship that went down so horribly but he wants to not leave her alone. That he still cares a lot.I can see a few ways this can be seen as a love song, but that tone just doesn't seem that way. I hear a guy dying to begin the search for his identity. Knowing that he has to do that and not let others, whoever she is (mother?), define who he is.

I feel the person (he or she, most likely he; I'll use he from here on out) is alone right now for whatever reason (recent break up, etc.). But the song isn't entirely about getting back together with whoever she is, it's more about moving on, learning, and growing.

At the beginning, he's looking for him, whatever is left of it anyways. In a sense, he's lost what he is, he doesn't know himself. So he's picking and choosing what's left of him (so he can move on).

"Just let it go...", "It's all you've ever known...". What he knows may have very well been defined by the people in his past, some authoritative figure, most likely a parent (as he's making rounds all around town, but it's familiar, he knows it as opposed to not knowing it). He has to let go of them and move on for himself.

It's hurt him in the past "I've worked it out, you'll always bring me down." At this point, I'm assuming she is a mother (possibly). I don't see her as a girlfriend (past or present). His life up to now has been for her, it seems implied with the next line "from here on out, I'm doing things for me". He wants to find himself, it's a common theme to the song. The first notion of love does come in at this verse, which is that he knows he won't, he can't, live alone. But he also states that he has to do him first, he has to find himself first.

We know that he's gone through hardships with the second to last verse that is repeated twice; it begins "with everything that sets me back, I push harder to clear the way" We know that he's gone through a tough time or two, but he doesn't regret anything he does, rather, he wants to learn and grow from it. He can't stay stuck there ("can't live my life in yesterday"), but he can't forget it either.

Now the chorus does have the notion of love in it, but it's a future love. It shows that he knows love is in his future, but that's not what he's looking for. He knows there is a faceless person for him, and that will come in the future, but not now. He's looking for a reason to come back home, most likely after he is finished finding himself, his identity.

Basically, he, whoever he is, has reached that part of life where you split from who made you who you are and are chasing after your own identity. He needs to know who he is, and it seems like he's going to put his love life on hold, in a way, let it come to him.
Wow, let me first say... What a song. The first time I heard it, I felt my heart rate pick up. This song means a lot to me and I would like to interpret it in my own way. Some of you may agree -- Some of you may not. But, nonetheless, here I go:
This is just my interpretation. I think its about someone whose desperately trying to find themself. Constantly trying to find someone to love them because he feels lost and can be alone because he doesn't know who he is and can't stand it. So he always pushes to find someone that loves him because he can't love himself and feels safe when someone else can find a reason because he can't. So he presses on and is too inept to learn and to do it any other way so he repeats a cycle.
Here is yet another interpretation. This one has a lot to do with my personal experiences, but maybe this song is a mix of what he feels inside and what he wishes he could say to an ex (romantic partner or friend in general). Perhaps he tried really hard to satisfy this girl and she completely took him for granted. Maybe the parts about "she said" were him reflecting bitterly on how she treated him and the rest is kind of a "I don't need you" type thing. in the beginning its more him feeling sad and lost, but the chorus and bridge seem to be about defending himself and saying that despite what she thinks, he'll be just fine without her. It is kind of odd how it switches back and forth between vulnerable and defensive though, because it goes from "I'm already gone, I'm already something to someone..." (I don't need you) to "to someone that I don't know... when will I know?" (I'm hurt and long for someone) and in the verse "from here on out, i'm doing things for me." and then "i'm not the type for life alone, i need someone." which is why I feel like it's every detail that's running through his mind, the defensive and the vulnerable.
I think the relationship-gone-wrong interpretation could certainly be applied here, but because that's what we normally jump to on this site, I figured I would take a walk off the beaten path.
Because CC is more about the band's roots and leaving Ocala, that's what I see "I'm Already Gone" as, and it furthers that main idea. He thinks that the position he's in is always going to just hold him back, no matter what ("I've worked it out, you'll always bring me down"). He wants to get out, even though everyone says to stay because that's where he's been his whole life ("Just let it go... it's all you've ever known"). Even though they're trying to make him stay, he's made his plans--he's "already gone". He's leaving because he knows that he's valued somewhere, but he just doesn't know where or by who yet ("I'm already something to someone that I don't know"). Even though he's going to leave, he's conflicted and is searching for some reason not to leave ("I'm out making rounds on every side of town that I've been through, that I know, to find my reason to come back home").
I can confidently say this because I've been feeling like that lately. Everyone's telling me just to go with the system and go to college and get some boring job, because that's all I've known here. But I don't want to stay, because I don't think that's the right road for me. Even though I have my mind set on leaving, I'm still trying to find reasons to stay.
That's my interpretation of another incredible acoustic song by A Day to Remember.
I take this song as somebody who is finally getting over a harsh breakup. Saying "im already gone" means he is over her or it and "im already something to someone that I don't know" is supposed to mean that his real true love is still out there and he can finally come to grips that it wasn't the girl that just broke up with him. "Cant live my life in yesterday" means he cant keep dwelling on the past relationships that didnt work and he needs to keep searching for the one who is meant for him. "Im not the type for life alone I need someone" also shows how he needs to have someone important in his life and he will keep searching for that perfect girl.
