We will not be guided
Held apart and counted
Kept within our spaces alone
Some of us have broken free
And we have chosen
Bleeding but we're conscious, awake

Clearly lost but turning
Waking from the dream within a dream confused
Staring at the seams and lines
Awake

Now the veil's unfurling
The illusion we're alone has now dissolved
It's you staring back at you
It's time for change
Awake

Please don't fade
Now that I see who you are
There's not enough of you here today
And this world needs you
Please don't change
Now that I see who you are
There's not enough of you here today

Clearly lost but learning
Escaping from this scene within a scene
Are you real
Or did I dream you while awake?
Some of us have broken
Free and we have chosen
Bleeding but we're conscious, awake

Please don't fade
Now that I see who you are
There's not enough of you here today
And this world needs you
Please don't change
Now that I see who you are
There's not enough of you here today

You and I
Us again
Unfolding as the world keeps spinning
Our minds covered with the veil
That is the game in which we're lost
I get it now
Here it is
Us again
Unfolding as the world keeps spinning
Our minds covered with the veil
That is the game in which we're lost
I get it, now

Please don't change
Now that I see who you are
There's not enough of you here today

Say something as you're taking that step from me
Coming unstuck
The face that I choose
Won't let me in
On reflection of this concept of unity
I'm dreaming all this
The face that is you
Won't let me in...

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
