"Girl On Fire" as written by Onika Tanya Maraj, Alicia J. Augello-cook, Billy Squier, Jeffrey Bhasker and Salaam Remi....
She's just a girl, and she's on fire
Hotter than a fantasy, longer like a highway
She's living in a world, and it's on fire
Feeling the catastrophe, but she knows she can fly away
Oh, she got both feet on the ground
And she's burning it down
Oh, she got her head in the clouds
And she's not backing down

This girl is on fire
This girl is on fire
She's walking on fire
This girl is on fire

Looks like a girl, but she's a flame
So bright, she can burn your eyes
Better look the other way
You can try but you'll never forget her name
She's on top of the world
Hottest of the hottest girls say
Oh, we got our feet on the ground
And we're burning it down
Oh, got our head in the clouds
And we're not coming down

This girl is on fire
This girl is on fire
She's walking on fire
This girl is on fire

Everybody stands, as she goes by
Cause they can see the flame that's in her eyes
Watch her when she's lighting up the night
Nobody knows that she's a lonely girl
And it's a lonely world
But she gon' let it burn, baby, burn, baby

This girl is on fire
This girl is on fire
She's walking on fire
This girl is on fire
Oh, oh, oh,
She's just a girl, and she's on fire

My InterpretationI think this is about female powers. When you look at the video, you can see a woman cleaning the household, caring for kids, cooking food, etc. without a man coming along to help. Most probably she is a single mother. So the song is about emancipation, about being able to do everything, even alone.

Any woman who has a single mother or has raised kid herself will know what I'm talking about. There is always so much to do, you feel like it's consuming yourself, like fire. And then, in the evening, when the kids are asleep, there are those quiet, lonely minutes, where you are totally broken up and just want to cry, feeling burned out. But your not, you will get up the other day and do it all over again, because the flame has not vanished in your eyes. A strong girl, strong woman, who will make it, even on her own. Love that song.

This song is about a bladder infection. Or maybe gonorrhea. Does chlamydia burn?

Song MeaningWhat I think is, you can always shine in this world, no matter how lonely you are, if you don't have support from family and friends, it's who YOU are, not who the others are.
