This is about bronies. They communicate by stomping.
Picked you out my pocket, and you fell into the road
You asked me if I'd make it better
Asked me if we could grow old together
But you don't mean a thing to me
So I'll walk by quite happily
And now I guess that you've moved on as well
You took me to the bricks
You start to build a wall
Keep peace intact
Protect your family
Keep them from harm
Live peacefully, but they came crumbling down
The second you left town,
And now your family are gone, are gone
Understand me, take me, fully
Underground where I can not be found
Understand me, take me, fully
Underground where I can not be found
And a letter that you wrote
That had been stashed inside my wall
Telling me all about your life
It had been there for a quite a while
It skipped out certain chapters
That I thought had really mattered
And now I feel like I missed out
Out, baby out, get out of town
Baby out, baby out, get out
Baby out, baby out, get out of town
Before it catches up with you
And you cannot withstand
Before it catches up with you
And you cannot withstand
Before it catches up with you
And you cannot withstand
You asked me if I'd make it better
Asked me if we could grow old together
But you don't mean a thing to me
So I'll walk by quite happily
And now I guess that you've moved on as well
You took me to the bricks
You start to build a wall
Keep peace intact
Protect your family
Keep them from harm
Live peacefully, but they came crumbling down
The second you left town,
And now your family are gone, are gone
Understand me, take me, fully
Underground where I can not be found
Understand me, take me, fully
Underground where I can not be found
And a letter that you wrote
That had been stashed inside my wall
Telling me all about your life
It had been there for a quite a while
It skipped out certain chapters
That I thought had really mattered
And now I feel like I missed out
Out, baby out, get out of town
Baby out, baby out, get out
Baby out, baby out, get out of town
Before it catches up with you
And you cannot withstand
Before it catches up with you
And you cannot withstand
Before it catches up with you
And you cannot withstand

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
I have two possible interpretations of this song. The first is innocent enough. There's a guy in this girl's hometown that she has a brief thing with, but he wants something more serious than she's ready for so she dumps him. Then, later in her life, after she's moved away and lived somewhere else for a time, she comes back home, finds old letters he wrote her, and regrets letting him go.
The second is that I think this song could be about an abortion. She has a relationship (or maybe just sex) with this guy and gets pregnant. He obviously is family-oriented (protect your family, keep them from harm, live peacefully, and he wants to grow old with her) and wants a traditional family life, but she doesn't, and she doesn't love him, so she terminates the pregnancy because she doesn't want to be bound to him and the traditional life that she'll have if she stays with him and has the kid. Then a while after that she finds old letters that he wrote her and regrets what she did. The only reason I went to the abortion idea is because of the repetition of "out, baby out, baby out." I also think that she doesn't tell him about the pregnancy or the abortion because of "before it catches up with you and you cannot withstand." She's afraid that he and everyone else will find out and she won't be able to withstand the way people will treat her after that and he won't be able to withstand the pain of knowing that she robbed him of the chance to be a father.
I don't know; the second one might be a bit of a reach, but that's how I took it. Either way, I see this as a pretty sad song about regret.
That second interpretation wouldn't really occur to me, but it kind of make sense.'Picked you out my pocket' ..now it made me think of a kangaroo pocket, where they carry their babies, and she picked it out, like it was the only thing, that attached her to the boy..even though he suggested marrying her, but he didn't mean anything to her, so now she could walk away.It could be, that they only spent a night together, cause if they were dating for some time, he would mean at least something to her. And also the line 'your family are gone' like there never was one but there could have been. It's really interesting, I would like to hear what would Kate said :)
And now I guess that you've, you've done aswell
it's 'that you've moved on as well'

No idea why that posted twice - apologies!
She said it's about wanting to get out of town? Then I don't really get the lyrics :D
