In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

We spent more days fighting than we ever did loving
We could never see eye to eye
I worked and I slaved but I didn?t save
You spent every dime
Hell we could go out all day do whatever you want
You couldn?t be satisfied
CHORUS
Man I wish I could buy some time
Cause that girl wasted all of mine
Hell I thought I was king and she was my queen
She hated my friends hell, we never did anything
Her friends are phony they talk a lot
I come from home from work with nothing to do
But sit around here fighting with you
Where you chew my ass, I kept it all inside
CHORUS
I got so far in debt it took all my checks
Till I could realize
She wanted everything like that big diamond ring
And a couple of men on the side
CHORUS
She took all of my bad habits threw them out the door
Luckily I told my friend next door
Now we sit around until our brains are fried
