Bound up the stairs
I'm in the shower
Do you know I am going to leave you?
Do you know I am going
To leave you?

I'm in love with a dying man
I'm in love with a dying man
All our love's flying in the sand
I'm in love with a dying man
I'm in love with a dying man
I have done everything I can

Tell me about Ray and his girl
Do I know, Ray is going to meet you?
Love you, I do
Stay here, I won't
As stars fade from your eyes

I'm in love with a dying man
I'm in love with a dying man
All our love flying in the sand
I'm in love with a dying man
I'm in love with a dying man
I have done everything I can

One, two
Make it fun
Don't trust
Anyone

One, two
Make it fun
Don't trust
Anyone

I'm in love with a dying man
I'm in love with a dying man
I have done everything I can
I'm in love with a dying man
I'm in love with a dying man
I have done everything I can...

One, two
Make it fun
Don't trust
Anyone

One, two
Make it fun,
Make it fun,
Make it fun.

Bound up the stairs I'm in the shower

    • The routine they created is followed. Everyday life is being carried out and there is no hint for the dying man to follow, to realise he is about to be left.

I'm in love with a dying man.

    • The man she used to love doesn't exist anymore. He's changed to such an extent that the love she used to feel for him is slowly diminishing. The thing that hurts Lana is that she can still see a semblance of who he used to be, what they used to be. He's dying, not completely dead and so he still retains some of his personality and quirks that make it so much harder for Lana to leave this relationship. The pain is thusly dragged out.

All our love is flying in the sand.

    • Lana is no longer in love and neither is he. The love is flying in the sand means that its flying away, to be dispersed throughout the beach meaning it is no longer concentrated like it used to be. Her love for him is diminishing.

    I've done everything I can.

    • Although Lana has tried her hardest to go back to how she felt, he felt, and how they interacted together, he has done nothing, content to leave their slowly crumbling relationship to be. While she is unhappy, he sees no reason to change, which leads to Lana feeling frustrated and resentful.

Tell me about Brian and his girl

    • Tell me about other relationships that are better than ours, so we can drown in our jealousy.

As stars fade from your eyes.

    • The stars, the very thing that made Lana fall in love is leaving the man's eyes, leaving his personality as he is changing into someone else.

    My Interpretation

I'm not knocking anyone else's thoughts, and I'm not sure I have all the lyrics right, but I think this song was meant to have multiple meanings. What I’ve learned from Lana is that she speaks in riddles. That’s why I love her!

Bound up the stairs, I'm in the shower - 1.) I'm crazy in the head, and I'm crying. 2.)I'm taking a shower upstairs because we just finished making love.

Don't you know I'm going to leave you? 1.)Your just a one night stand 2.)You can’t promise me forever, and neither can I. Because we all die, and we all sin

I’m in love with a dying man. 1.) I’m in love with the idea of a perfect man, which is unrealistic. My dream is dying. 2.) We are all dying literally, that is why we can’t promise each other forever, nor can we trust each other because we all have self desires.

IM IN LOVE LYING IN THE SAND–?- This one is tough. I don’t know what she is saying. Is she saying laying? Lying? Or lying as in telling a lie. When I think about lying down in the sand, it doesn’t sound comfortable. Is she being “layed” in the sand and that’s why she’s loving it? And is she lying to herself? Are they both being dishonest? Very very clever lyrics!

I have done everything I can 1.) She’s tried hard in the relationship. 2.) She’s tried everything but no matter what, no one will ever be good enough because she can never really trust anyone. That’s why she’s painted this portrait of a “dying man”, because the perfect man isn’t real. And it’s her dreams she feels that are dying.

Tell me about Ray and his girl 1.) Tell me about that perfect relationship. 2.) Tell me about that perfect man I crave, and his girl who I so want to be me.

Do I know, Ray is going to meet you 1.) ?? Is Ray the other lover? An example of all her other lovers, and vice versa with the guy she’s in love with. His “so called” friend Ray, is messing around with her. Will he find out?

Love you I do, stay here I won’t As stars fade from your eyes 1.) I see your losing interest in me as I am too losing interest in you.

ONE, TWO, Make it fun, Don’t Trust Anyone

This is the main lyric that gives me the ideas I came up with. It’s pretty simple. It only takes two people to make it “fun”. That’s why she doesn’t trust anyone! Because she feels the same way about commitment as he does.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
