This city's lost it's hope, I repeat, I boast
The strange will walk alone
They scurry with their doubt, darkness shrouds, the sirens shout
Against the concrete below
Oh, this works all for you and me, it's all our being
We'll burn this city down!

Who will be your pretty, little enemy?
When I'm gone your world will prove empty
I promise you will always remember me
The joke's on you, poison me
While you clean the streets of misfortune
I pick the innocent from my dirty teeth
We're one and the same deranged

We were our worst nightmares delight
And I promised you
As you always knew
Our world's no paradise

Who will be your pretty, little enemy?
When I'm gone your world will prove empty
I promise you will always remember me
The joke's on you, poison me
While you clean the streets of misfortune
I pick the innocent from my dirty teeth
We're one and the same deranged

There is no me without you
I will behave, I will be
An afterthought, your make believe
Your darkest day is your friend in need (ha ha ha ha)

This song is pretty simple. It's told through The Joker's perspective and is about his relationship with Batman.

Fixed the lyrics. The old ones were me playing it by ear before we had official lyrics for the song (and we had official lyrics for the song within hours of the song coming out) so I used the official lyrics to fix this up. For those who don't know, Coheed's official lyrics are NEVER the ones used in the actual song, but you can find them here childrenofthefence.tumblr.com/post/10210663711/deranged-lyrics

On that note, Claudio has stated the song is inspired by an Alan Moore comic book called "The Killing Joke" where the Joker attempts to drive commissioner Gordan insane and Batman tries to help Joker get out of his psychotic mindset.

"Who will be your pretty little enemy? When I’m gone your world will prove empty."

That's what made me realize it was about The Joker and Batman, it reminds me of the scene in Dark Knight when Joker is hanging over the edge of the building and Batman could have killed him, but he didn't.. I imagine Joker saying that to him and that's why Batman didn't kill him.

Regardless of the lyrics and meanings, it is a fantastic song!

first of all, this song is absolutely amazing. great lyricism and a fantastic track make this easily one of the best songs on the Arkham City soundtrack. if you know much about the back story, Batman came very close to actually killing Joker during the Hush story arc. what stopped him was Gordon reminding him that if he killed the Joker, he would be no better than those he fights against. Joker knows that Batman will never willingly kill him, so he pushes Batman as hard as he can to see if he'll eventually break and take a life. Joker doesn't care if he dies, he knows that Batman will never be able to live with himself after taking a life

I always heard this as a goodbye letter or a suicide note from joker. He knew he was dying, and was very confident that Batman wouldn’t save him, especially after ***** dies. This is him pointing out that he and Batman are the two sides of the coin, one rules in chaos by made news, and the other rules in solidity in order. Joker honestly beloved that without him, Batman would inevitably fall and/or lose his impetus to keep going as the ‘hero of Gotham’. It’s why he laughs at the end.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
