Girls put your records on,
play me your favourite song.
You go ahead, let your hair down.

Girls put your records on,
play me your favourite song.
You go ahead, let your hair down.

I ever walk too far
down the dark side of the road
asking, "where'd you go?"
These days like to
kick, pull, shove.
This one got old,
this one's too young.
But we're all so tough,
can't get enough
of the brutal stuff.
Join the club.
Get a back rub
when you least expect it.
Can't find it,
that's where you left it.
Retrace my footsteps
and got to a doorstep.
All of the tracks I drop
just fall inside her head.
I had three months leave
just to keep the peace,
but she turned it upside down
and she can't run from the beat,
there's no retreat
when I turn her inside out,
saying...

Girls put your records on, (Yeah.)
play me your favourite song. (Right.)
You go ahead, let your hair down.
She's saying,
Girls put your records on, (Yeah.)
play me your favourite song. (Right.)
You go ahead, let your hair down.

We like to snap our fingers
to a brand new song.
Just like that, just like that.
Get attached to the beat
when we move along.
Just like that, just like that.
Yeah, she gets jealous
of all the new chicks.
Self-absorbed like
she's ignored.
Center of the universe,
it ain't earth.
Yeah, you guessed it right,
it's her.
They get so disturbed
by the first burn,
when they've lit fires
all of their life
In turn, she's current.
You name it
and she's heard it.
If you want it,
don't deserve it.
I'll tell you
were they worth it,
Like it is.
Saying...

Girls put your records on, (Yeah.)
play me your favourite song. (Right.)
You go ahead, let your hair down.
She's saying,
Girls put your records on, (Yeah.)
play me your favourite song. (Right.)
You go ahead, let your hair down.

She's dressed like an animal,
cannibalistic.
With the open toe sandals,
call it ballistic.
She drew guns out so fast
she missed it.
Drop 88 HD meds
and listen.
On a mission
with no Houston.
'Till one damn, two
on my spaceship.
Smiling wide
like she got a facelift.
Got it in my inbox,
then erased it
It's time to slow it up
like drinking up some Rockstar.
I'm bouncing off the walls,
right after then we crash hard.
That's the scenario,
blast from your stereo,
from Mexico,
up on to Ontario.
Worldwide feel the vibe
and get it when we play it.
Saying...

Girls put your records on, (Yeah.)
play me your favourite song. (Right.)
You go ahead, let your hair down.
She's saying,
Girls put your records on, (Yeah.)
play me your favourite song. (Right.)
You go ahead, let your hair down.
She's saying,
Girls put your records on, (Yeah.)
play me your favourite song. (Right.)
You go ahead, let your hair down.
She's saying,
Girls put your records on, (Yeah.)
play me your favourite song. (Right.)
You go ahead, let your hair down.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
