They drew me in my sugar of prescription pills
Bent each other up
Brought me down, undercover
But the truth we found here lies in our fear

Book by book, we poured over
And manuscripts, all out of context
And we found our limbs feel our lips
But the truth we found here lies in our fear

Bom, bom bom bom, bom bom bom bom, woah
Bom, bom bom bom, bom bom bom bom, woah
Bom bom bom bom, woah
Bom bom bom bom, woah
Come on!

Oh yeah!
Shout! Let's shout!
And take back our lives today
We'll leave our cares behind, give all our love away
Let's shout! Let's shout!
And take back our lives today....
Oh yeah!

Shout! Let's shout!
And take back our lives today
We'll leave our cares behind, give all our love away
Let's shout! Let's shout!
And take back our lives today...

They drew me on their bedroom
with a colored pen, careful measure
and perfect lines on their paper
But the truth we found here lies in our fear

Bom, bom bom bom, bom bom bom bom, woah
Bom, bom bom bom, bom bom bom bom, woah
Bom bom bom bom, woah
Bom bom bom bom, woah
Come on!

Shout! Let's shout!
And take back our lives today
We'll leave our cares behind, give all our love away
Let's shout! Let's shout!
And take back our lives today...

Oh yeah!
Shout! Let's shout!
And take back our lives today
We'll leave our cares behind, give all our love away
Let's shout! Let's shout!
And take back our lives today....
Oh yeah!

Shout! Let's shout!
And take back our lives today
We'll leave our cares behind, give all our love away
Let's shout! Let's shout!
And take back our lives today...

Oh yeah!
Shout! Let's shout!
And take back our lives today
We'll leave our cares behind, give all our love away
Let's shout! Let's shout!
And take back our lives today....
Oh yeah!

Shout! Let's shout!
And take back our lives today
We'll leave our cares behind, give all our love away
Let's shout! Let's shout!
And take back our lives today...

Often times people will join churches feeling like the people there are really nice, offering sugary words, but they end up driving them to a state of fear by failing to give them the love and grace they need so much as new Christians--sometimes even taking teachings from the Bible widely out of context.

The second verse talks about carefully drawing, which seems like a metaphor for strict religiosity. But the chorus is a celebration of a simpler creed: just live and love (Christianity was never meant to be so complicated, so this motto is not so far off base).

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
