This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.
She leaves me with jellylegs
Where did all my good luck get to?
We're curled up like sleeping kittens on the floor
Stowed aboard your big green boat
She took aim with a turned back
Blew holes in me with cold silence
Then a science project volcano erupts inside me
Filling me with flat champagne
Stretched out like a rubber band
From one planet to the next
You were dancing with your grandfather that lonely night
I guess ill meet you in the afterlife
She leaves with jellylegs
Where did all my good luck get to
Like a lonely kitten, sinking, drowning in the harbor
I walked the plank your big green boat
Stretched out like a rubber band
From one planet to the next
You were dancing with your grandfather that lonely night
I guess I`ll meet you in the afterlife
I guess I`ll meet you in the afterlife
Where did all my good luck get to?
We're curled up like sleeping kittens on the floor
Stowed aboard your big green boat
She took aim with a turned back
Blew holes in me with cold silence
Then a science project volcano erupts inside me
Filling me with flat champagne
Stretched out like a rubber band
From one planet to the next
You were dancing with your grandfather that lonely night
I guess ill meet you in the afterlife
She leaves with jellylegs
Where did all my good luck get to
Like a lonely kitten, sinking, drowning in the harbor
I walked the plank your big green boat
Stretched out like a rubber band
From one planet to the next
You were dancing with your grandfather that lonely night
I guess I`ll meet you in the afterlife
I guess I`ll meet you in the afterlife

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
Holiday

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
first comment on an epic song! A hard one to nut out but I'd say it's about someone dying, or perhaps himself dying... maybe being killed by someone; "blew holes in me with cold silence"???
I think it's about liking a girl, but she is unresponsive to the boy's advances. 'blew holes in me with cold silence' It makes him nervous giving him jelly legs that stretch out like a rubber band.
Also the girl is in a sexual relationship with her grandfather. ...well I'm unsure about that part.
a couple of the lyrics are wrong. nothing to write home about though in the booklet its "pea green boat" not "big green boat" and its "You went hunting with your grandfather that lonely night"
i think this song is about a guy who likes a girl but is too nervous to talk to her "She leaves me with jellylegs" and she doesn't notice him at all "She took aim with a turned back" and it hurts him "Blew holes in me with cold silence" "Then a science project volcano erupts inside me Filling me with flat champagne" and I'm not sure but i think she was accidentally shot by her grandfather in the end "You went hunting with your grandfather that lonely night"
from getmusic.com.au
"Front man, Johnny Mackay describes the track as ‘a post-traumatic heartbreak song about my ex-girlfriend dying in a bizarre hunting accident with her Grandfather.’"
Wow thats paraphasing...

A better explaination: I saw a pretty weird interview with you about how the song premise came to you in a dream about your ex-girlfriend?

About her dying in a bizarre hunting accident with her grandfather? Yeah.

You must have some weird Freudian wishes for her.

Apparently! (Laughs). Or you could just take it as her being ‘dead’ to me. But that whole song really is about that shit feeling that you have when you break up with someone you love, or when you have your heart broken. And we crushed each other. And then there are those few lines in the chorus that refer to her dying in that hunting accident. (Laughs).

from thevine.com.au/music/interviews/children-collide-_-interview20100813.aspx
