The darkness, the coal mines knew it best
When the daylight headed west and disappeared
Progression, on the morning goes
But regardless no one knows the day has cleared
Oh we are blind

I'll be the flowers of the field that slowly bloom
While you are soundly sleeping on the ground
And I'll be your escort in a sad waltz around the room
I'll twirl you all around without a sound

The snowfall, the great lakes know it best
When the summers travel west and disappear
Like dry ice, the snowcaps on the hills
Melt like 50 dollar bills of our new year
Oh we are cold

I'll be the flowers of the field that slowly bloom
While you are soundly sleeping on the ground
And I'll be your escort in a sad waltz around the room
I'll twirl you all around without a sound

We're trying hard to alleviate this dizzy feeling
We're skipping meals because it feels that bad
If we survive we'll stay alive below the ceiling
Of new atmospheres and brighter years that we'll have

    My Interpretation

These meanings are from my perspective and my experience on how Adam Young interpreted it but I'm not sure if that's what Adam meant about the song, but here are my interpretations of it. Tip: Every Adam Young song at least has some metaphors, so the lyrics could be metaphorical.

"The darkness, the coal mines knew it best When the daylight headed west and disappeared Progression, on the morning, goes But regardless no one knows the day has cleared Oh we are blind"

1st Part: It talks about darkness, and how coal mines are dark like darkness so that's why coal mines knew it best.

It talks about daylight disappearing, it could be the daylight in our lives making us feel empty, or someone being our daylight, and that person that has gone away made us dark and sad.

Then it talks about the progression of every morning that goes by, but still not knowing the day has cleared, and us being blind. It could mean that every morning there is a progression, that every morning the day is cleared, but us not knowing that the day has cleared and that we are alive and free, makes us still feel that we are empty and the darkness of now knowing that the day has cleared makes us blind. And it could be a metaphor because of how darkness came when the daylight disappeared making everything blind including us; not knowing that day and daylight always come back every morning and that there is progression every morning too.

"I'll be the flowers of the field that slowly bloom While you are soundly sleeping on the ground And I'll be your escort in a sad waltz around the room I'll twirl you all around without a sound"

2nd Part: The flowers of the field might mean a person or someone or something that helps us when we are asleep and living, it could be God, or a loved one. And the flowers of the field will help us and make us not feel empty and dark, and feel full of happiness and be positive! The flowers of the field are the ones that'll slowly bloom while we are soundly sleeping on the ground, or escort us in a sad waltz around the room, and twirl us all around without a sound.

The snowfall and the great lakes know it best When the summers travel west and disappear Like dry ice, the snowcaps on the hills Melt like 50 dollar bills of our new year Oh we are cold

3rd Part: In here it's kind of the same thing as the 1st part but being cold, the snowfall becomes cold, and the great lakes freeze, because of the summer traveling west and disappearing making everything cold, again it could be a metaphor about life being dark and cold, because of something going away like daylight and summer, because when daylight and summer go away, everything becomes dark and cold. But then it talks about ice caps on the hills melting, it could mean the ice caps melt because summer came back; and that there is light and heat in every darkness and cold, but still we are cold because we forget that there is light and heat in our lives that help us fight against from the darkness and cold in our lives.

"I'll be the flowers of the field that slowly bloom While you are soundly sleeping on the ground And I'll be your escort in a sad waltz around the room I'll twirl you all around without a sound"

4th Part: The flowers of the field might mean a person or someone or something that helps us when we are asleep and living, it could be God, or a loved one. And the flowers of the field will help us and make us not feel empty and dark, and feel full of happiness and be positive! The flowers of the field are the ones that'll slowly bloom while we are soundly sleeping on the ground, or escort us in a sad waltz around the room, and twirl us all around without a sound.

"We're trying hard to alleviate this dizzy feeling We're skipping meals because it feels that bad If we survive we'll stay alive below the ceiling Of new atmospheres and brighter years that we'll have"

5th Part: To summarize part 5, it talks about how we always try hard to get away from these dark, empty, dizzy feelings. Making us skip meals and feel sad, but in the end, if we survive we'll always stay alive and free, because there will always be new brighter years that we'll always have in every journey in life.

TO SUMMARIZE EVERYTHING IN THE SONG:

To me the feeling of the song and how the lyrics go, I think it really talks about struggles in life, but even if there are struggles in life there are always times where we are content and happy, just like how the lyrics go. "When the Daylight headed west and disappered." "But regardless no one knows the day has cleared"

I think it means that in every circumstance of challenges, it could be the daylight dissapearing in our lives that there will always be a new day that will come.

But also in the chorus it talks about "The Flowers of the field that slowly bloom" I think it meant that in every sadness there will be always that happiness in our lives, the flowers of the field represents the happiness that comes back and always comes back, even while we sleep, or do a sad waltz, the flowers of the field will help us and encourage us to keep going, and it could also represent God helping us through our journeys and challenges, considering that Adam is also Christian and me too.

Then it talks about "The snowfall, the great lakes know it best" "When the summers travel west and disappear" To me it really talks about how even if there are snowfalls and great lakes freezing, when the summers travel and disappear, that even though that happiness may go away and we may feel cold and empty, it'll come back, just like what it says in the next verses. "Like dry ice, the snowcaps on the hills" "Melt like 50 dollar bills of our new year" "Oh we are cold" That summer will always come back, that happiness will always come back, that the dry ice, the coldness will melt like 50 dollar bills because summer came back, that happiness will always come back to melt those cold, empty, sad feelings. But yet we are still cold, because we don't recognize that happiness will always come back, that there will be a time of peace and happiness.

Then in the last part it talks about "We're trying hard to alleviate this dizzy feeling" "We're skipping meals because it feels that bad" I think it talks about how even though we try hard to remove those dizzy, empty, sad feelings, and that even if we skip meals when it feels bad, it still talks here about how...

"If we survive we'll stay alive below the ceiling" "Of new atmospheres and brighter years that we'll have" If we survive even through these dizzy feelings and skipping meals, if we survive we'll always stay alive through these moments, and we don't really recognize that being alive is a blessing and surviving is truly a blessing even if we are sad and empty, that these new atmospheres and brighter years will always come and make us feel happy again that through these emptiness and sadness, we'll soon have brighter years again and new atmospheres of happiness.

And that's my take on the song "The Flowers Of The Field by Sky Sailing" I hope you get it, sorry if you didn't; this is my first time interpreting a song, especially from Sky Sailing. But thanks fpr reading, have a nice day and God bless!

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
