These meanings are from my perspective and my experience on how Adam Young interpreted it but I'm not sure if that's what Adam meant about the song, but here are my interpretations of it.

It talks about daylight disappearing, it could be the daylight in our lives making us feel empty, or someone being our daylight, and that person that has gone away made us dark and sad.
Then it talks about the progression of every morning that goes by, but still not knowing the day has cleared, and us being blind. It could mean that every morning there is a progression, that every morning the day is cleared, but us not knowing that the day has cleared and that we are alive and free, makes us still feel that we are empty and the darkness of now knowing that the day has cleared makes us blind. But then it talks about ice caps on the hills melting, it could mean the ice caps melt because summer came back; and that there is light and heat in every darkness and cold, but still we are cold because we forget that there is light and heat in our lives that help us fight against from the darkness and cold in our lives.
