Oh yeah
Oh yeah
So scared of breaking it
That you won't let it bend
And I wrote two hundred letters
I will never send
Sometimes these cuts are so much
Deeper than they seem
You'd rather cover up
I'd rather let them bleed
So let me be
And I'll set you free (oh yeah)

I am in misery
There ain't nobody
Who can comfort me, oh yeah
Why won't you answer me?
The silence is slowly killing me, oh yeah
Girl, you really got me bad
You really got me bad
Now I'm gonna get you back
I'm gonna get you back, yeah

Your salty skin and how
It mixes in with mine
The way it feels to be
Completely intertwined
Not that I didn't care
It's that I didn't know
It's not what I didn't feel
It's what I didn't show
So let me be
And I'll set you free

I am in misery
There ain't nobody
Who can comfort me, oh yeah
Why won't you answer me?
The silence is slowly killing me, oh yeah
Girl, you really got me bad
You really got me bad
And now I'm gonna get you back
I'm gonna get you back, yeah

You say your faith is shaken
And you may be mistaken
You keep me wide awake and
Waiting for the sun
I'm desperate and confused
So far away from you
And I'm getting there
I don't care where I have to run

Why do you do what you do to me? Yeah
Why won't you answer me, answer me? Yeah
Why do you do what you do to me? Yeah
Why won't you answer me, answer me? Yeah

I am in misery
There ain't nobody
Who can comfort me, oh yeah
Why won't you answer me?
Your silence is slowly killing me, oh yeah
Girl, you really got me bad
You really got me bad
And now I'm gonna get you back
I'm gonna get you back (come on)

Girl, you really got me bad
You really got me bad
Now I'm gonna get you back
I'm gonna get you back

(Girl, you really got me bad)
(You really got me bad)
(Now I'm gonna get you back)
(I'm gonna get you back)
(Girl, you really got me bad)
(You really got me bad)
(Now I'm gonna get you back)
(I'm gonna get you back)

    My Interpretation

I think it's a tug-pull kind of love/hate relationship Adam is singing about, cause it seems that he gives and gives, but she takes and takes. So because of this he is always in misery. And also I think she keeps finding ways to point out what he is doing wrong and she won't just let him be. I'll break down some of the song lyrics to show what I mean...

"So scared of breaking it. But you won't let it bend."

    • She is afraid that if it ends, she won't be stable enough, so she won't bend to his way of thinking that is 10x's easier than her fears are telling her to believe.

"And I wrote two hundred letters. I won't ever send."

    • He wrote her so many emails/texts, but never got the nerve to send them to her telling how he really felt about things. He just can't get past something so he just saves it for a rainy day.

"Somehow it is cut so much. Deeper then they seem."

    • She hurt him badly, so bad that the scar is still etched on his heart... but she did it from the back so he feels it very deeply when it happened.

"You'd rather cover up. I'd rather let them be. So let me be. And I'll set you free."

    • She wants to forget everything that went wrong, including any girls from his past. He just wants to go with the flow, no matter what they are, but she won't go there with him, ever. So he just begs that if you let it be, you'll feel free of everything that drives you nuts about you and me.

"I am in misery. There ain't no other who can comfort me. Why won't you answer me? Your silence is slowly killing me."

    • She makes him feel like hell, but at the same time it's comforting that she drives him crazy. Yet at the same time she is giving him either the silent treatment or ignoring him because he pissed her off. So he is going out of his mind trying to figure out why she won't say anything back.

"Girl you really got me bad. You really got me bad. I'm gonna get you back. Gonna get you back."

    • She played a good head game on him, so now he is cleaver back to her and playing harder than her.

"Your salty skin and how it mixes in with mine, completely intertwined."

    • He loves it when they get down and dirty together, so caught up that they are intertwined completely physically.

    "It's not that I didn't care. It's that I didn't know. It's not what I didn't feel, It's what I didn't show."

    • He is saying with reference to the prior line above, that it was so care free, the sex. Yet he started to feel something and just didn't want to show he was falling for her so quickly. He just held back because he didn't know what she wanted from him. He knew there was something, but she was detached from it all.

"Say your faith is shaken. You may be mistaken."

    • She keeps thinking he is cheating/betraying her everytime she isn't around him. He keeps trying to tell her that he won't leave her or sleep with another, but her. She won't believe him.

"You keep me wide awake and waiting for the sun. I'm desperate and confused."

    • She fills his head with thoughts that make him question her while he toss and turns in bed, till the break of dawn most nights. He also just feels so desperate when it comes to her, like he is the girl and she is the boy... she leaves him so confused.

"So far away from you. I'm getting here. Don't care where I have to go."

    • He feels so distant from her physically and emotionally, that he is trying hard to get on her level, he'll get there, doesn't matter when or where, he wants to get there.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
