Your hands upon
A deadman's gun, and you're
Lookin' down the sights

Your heart is warm
And the seams are torn, and they've
Given you a reason to fight

And you're not gonna take
What they've got to give
And you're not gonna let 'em take your will to live
Because they've taken enough
And you've given them all you can give
And luck won't save them tonight
They've given you a reason to fight

And all the storms you've been chasin'
About to rain down tonight
And all that pain you've been facin'
About to come into the light

Your hands upon
A deadman's gun, and you're
Lookin' down the sights

Your heart is warm
And the seams are torn, and they've
Given you a reason to fight

And you're not gonna take
What they've got to give
And you're not gonna let 'em take your will to live
Because they've taken enough
And you've given them all you can give
And luck won't save them tonight
They've given you a reason to fight

And all the storms you've been chasin'
About to rain down tonight
And all that pain you've been facin'
About to come into the light

I got chills the first time I listened to this song. It's very unique by how melodic and quiet it is, but it's powerful. It's about sticking to your guns(literally in reference to the game) and not backing down after going through Hell and back. Stand by your convictions and everything that has made you who you are, and do not back down and let others get the best of you. You've got a reason to fight...pull the trigger.

    Song Meaning

I agree with all these. It's a powerful song and is about not giving up. It's also very meaningful as

SPOILER you play as Jack at the end and fight to avenge John's death. So you literally get "your hands on a dead man's gun" and by "looking down the sights" it means you're fighting for what he was fighting for :) as Jack goes to kill Edgar for killing John. As Landon Rickets says in multiplayer when you avenge (maybe others too I don't know) "An eye for an eye" /SPOILER :)

    My Interpretation

I don't think this song is directly talking about Jack and John Marston. I don't think it should be taken literally as in a man holding another man's gun. The two men are within yourself. It's the past you and the you now. "your hand's upon a deadman's gun, and you're lookin' down the sights" is when you are looking through the eyes of your past self. "your heart is worn and the seams are torn and they've given you a reason to fight" is saying that you are finally tired of your old ways (whether it be that you are moving on in life, leaving a relationship, stopping drugs" and you're tired of the troubles your problem gave you. Your heart and soul are tired of being worn down by the issues you had.

"and you're not gonna take what they've got to give and you're not gonna let 'em take your will to live because they've taken enough and you've given them all you can give and luck won't save them tonight they've given you a reason to fight" You are giving up the addiction or the loveless relationship. You're not going to give in to whatever promises or feelings are made because you are just gonna fade away if you stay. You've given your best efforts and all your efforts, but the problem or relationship isn't getting better.

    This is my interpretation.

Little surprised that no one's commented. I heard the song during the closing credits of Red Dead Redemption and it was amazing. It fit so perfectly. Just a haunting song that really worked with the story of the game. I love it.

    My Opinion

Strange that not too many have commented on this. Then again, didn't expect the lyrics to be here at all. That said, the song's amazing, and I thoroughly agree with Silver on his opinion. Considering that you often end the game by killing someone with, quite literally, a dead man's gun...That also adds to it a bit. It fits the storyline and feeling excellently.

It's a good song on its own, as well, and can be taken several different ways. It's saddening, but also encouraging, and it really can set you in the mood to face something with pride.

Overall, amazing job, Ashtar Command. Why've I not heard of them until now...

1st time I listened to the song I was listening to the soundtrack, I haven't played the game besides part 2. But I was sitting outside while my son played. I'm a single father. This song made me smile and just watch my son play and I felt accomplished. I fought 2 states to get my son and in my own experience I walked through hell and back. And this song imo is about going through hell and back again.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
