I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
If I could write you a song to make you fall in love
I would already have you up under my arm
I used up all my tricks, I hope that you like this
But, you probably won't, you think you're cooler than me
You got designer shades just to hide your face
And you wear 'em around like you're cooler than me
And you never say hey, or remember my name
And it's probably 'cause you think you're cooler than me
You got your high brow, shoes on your feet
And you wear 'em around like it ain't shit
But you don't know the way that you look
When your steps make that much noise
Shh, I got you all figured out
You need everyone's eyes just to feel seen
Behind your make up nobody knows who you even are
Who do you think that you are
If I could write you a song to make you fall in love
I would already have you up under my arm
I used up all-of my tricks, I hope that you like this
But, you probably won't, you think you're cooler than me
You got designer shades just to hide your face
And you wear 'em around like you're cooler than me
And you never say hey, or remember my name
And it's probably 'cause you think you're cooler than me
You got your high brow, switchin' your walk
And you don't even look when you pass by
But you don't know the way that you look
When your steps make that much noise
Shh, I got you all figured out
You need everyone's eyes just to feel seen
Behind your make up nobody knows who you even are
Who do you think that you are
'Cause it's your scene (it's your scene)
You got no doubt
But-we all see
You got your head in the clouds

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
This song is absolutely terrible. It's like the textbook description of Nice Guy (TM), set to music!
Let's just get this out of the way: if this girl is really such a snobby, stuck up bitch who is unmoved by his actions (which are, of course, completely innocent and have no ulterior motives!), then why does he want to be with her so badly? If she doesn't say hello to him, and doesn't know his name, it isn't her rejecting him for being less cool than she is, it's because he's practically a STRANGER to her.
So what does he do? Writes a song insulting her, accusing her of being vain, superficial, and not worthy of his time. The scorned admirer, his thoughtful displays of affection rejected and dismissed, the poor dear.
Seriously, read and consider these lyrics: they're misogynistic in the worst kind of way.
This is missing some lines I think!
After "You need everyone's eyes just to feel seen, girl" I don't think he says the "you're so vain" (at least not the version I have?) and instead he says:
"Behind your make-up nobody knows who you even are Who do you think that you are?"
@60_miles_an_hour because of different people who sang the song. Different people sing it slightly differently.

Ok, I'm sorry. I'm about to say something. It's strictly my opinion.
If someone has to write a song about their own insecurity, that's pretty sad. That is personally my opinion.
awesome song. {:
i'm so vain that i probably think that that song its about me. ;x hahaha *-))

Fking Amazing Song<$$
I am so in love with this song, I heard it on the radio, and can't stop listening. He seems to be talking about someone who's dissed him, because she thinks she's better than him, but he's calling her out as completely fake. It's almost a little bitter, but mostly mocking. Fantastic!
ironically, in his descriptions of the girl, he comes across as the vain and conceited one...projecting his character onto the girl because she shunned him. "sour grapes"...she doesn't want god's gift to women, so she must be a snob.
Totally agree with artisticdelusions! It is a "sour grapes" song. The guy seems convinced she doesn't want him because of some flaw in her. How dare she?! WHO does she think she is?! She must think she's cooler than him! She must be vain, superficial and materialistic or she'd certainly want this guy. The guy is the conceited one. It's what makes the song so enjoyable. It's meant to be funny and it is. The beat in it is great too.
You're completely right.
I think that this song is poorly written.
"behind your makeup" "designer shades just to hide your face" "but you probably wont"
those few lines seem very elementary.
If you are wondering about the song meaning, it is thinly veiled. It is essentially about a woman who thinks she is too good for him.
But the over-use of "cooler than me" really gets on my nerves.
If you ask me this song is very catchy. But I think the song was written in five minutes. And even though the lyrics have a meaning to them, the song is very simple - not in a good way. In a way that seems like it was written by a fifteen year old boy on his way to school on a school bus.
out of five stars I give this song two **
so a good song has to have deep or cryptic lyrics?
Apparently.<br /> <br /> Honestly, I think the random "cooler than me" statements that don't rhyme or anything are very refreshing – the song is very conversational and I think the way the lyrics kind of jilt and jolt the listener around with how abrasive they are works really well.
Some Songs Don't Necessarily Have Meanings . Take For Instance The Lime And The Coconut Song . Makes Not A Bit Of Sense , But Ppl Love It ! Songs Are Just A Meaningful Expression Of Melody . At The End Of The Day , It's Still A Catchy Song That's Hella Fun To Listen To . Obviously You Think You're Cooler Than This Song . Hee Hee .
"...In a way that seems like it was written by a fifteen year old boy on his way to school on a school bus...."<br /> In a way, I think that was the whole point. The song makes me laugh when I hear it because it sounds so silly coming from an adult. It may be based on true life experiences (and who hasn't experienced that at one time or another) but it seems obvious to me that it was meant to be tongue-in-cheek.
Watch the music video on youtube. It's more about him seeing through other people's eyes, and seeing what they think. Obviously they think high of themselves and consider them better than him, but the song has more depth than you think.

I think he's a genius for making such a simple yet catchy song. You've gotta hand it to him. He's all over the radio ;)
Agree. I like this song. A lot of the best songs are simple
i likd it
