I want someone to love me
For who I am
I want someone to need me
Is that so bad?
I wanna break all the madness
But it's all I have
I want someone to love me
For who I am

Nothing makes sense, nothing makes sense anymore
Nothing is right, nothing is right when you're gone
I'm losing my breath, I'm losing my right to be wrong
I'm frightened to death, I'm frightened that I won't be strong

I want someone to love me
For who I am
I want someone to need me
Is that so bad?
I wanna break all the madness
But it's all I have
I want someone to love me
For who I am

I'm shaking it off, I'm shaking off all of the pain.
Breaking my heart, breaking my heart once again

I want someone to love me
For who I am
I want someone to need me
Is that so bad?
I wanna break all the madness
But it's all I have
I want someone to love me
For who I am

I want someone to love me
For who I am
I want someone to need me
Is that so bad?
I wanna break all the madness
But it's all I have
I want someone to love me
For who I am

Yeah, who I am.

Well this song is just about loving someone for who they are, or someone loving you for who you are. Not picking 7 things you hate or love about someone, just loving them period.

I think people are deviating from the purpose of this site. We are not supposed to criticize the song, like if it is bad or good, or if the artist is bad or good... We are here to think, imagine, contrast, watch, see details... about the MEANING of the song. A point of view based on the literature that is inserted on the song.

on the first strophe I guess there's a bit of guilty in the thought of wanting someone who loves him, because he asks: is that so bad?

on the second strophe we see an existing feeling of passion, as he's already in love (Nothin' is right when you're gone) and that makes the listener think: he wants someone who loves him for what he is, or he has someone who doesn't love him for what he is?

still on this strophe he shows a fear of beeing weak. Is the fear of not finding someone who sees him like he really is and love him? Or is he questioning the person with whom he is in love if she would love him for what he is if she discovers it...? He believes that he has a right to be wrong. When there's a very strong passionate nonsense feeling of love people are used to do wrong things and they use the idea of extreme love to get absolved from the bad things they did. If he's losing this right, we can suppose he's losing the passion.

he wants to break the madness, he wants to shake off all the pain... more than wanting happiness he's searching for freedom. freedom of a bad feeling that is getting him down for a long time (as he says: breaking my heart once again)

so he clearly questions: are you gonna love me for who I am?

    Or... ?? (you go on)

I don't usually like the music, but this song touched me. =) It's really sweet. I think it would be hard to live with all the fame society brings to him and his brothers. I'm glad he ventured out on his own a bit, because I would have to say he is the most talented out of the group, giving that he has done so much more before the group as well. It's nice to see he has something strong to stand for other than just being famous. He's actually in love with music, and with that he does what he can do to inspire people. It's a good song because everybody wants someone to love them the way they are, and the "someone to need me." Well, I believe everyone wants to feel wanted and needed, not to mention the fact I suppose Nick could be a hopeless romantic. That would definitely be hard to do with all the crazed fans trying to get his attention. I think this is great, though, it shows you how sensitive of a person he really can be. I hope that, even though he has so many crazed fans, he finds someone to make him happy, and love him for who he is. =) Everyone deserves that.

Nick definitely has a genuinity about him that the other brothers don't seem to convey as well. I like the Jonas Brothers for their catchy songs, but Nick's lyrics are pretty phenomenal! This song is no exception-- the music video's touching. Much better than the images the other Disney stars are putting out nowadays. I completely approve.

This song says plainly what it's about. He wants someone to love him for who he is. He wants them to accept him, even with his flaws and with everything that is good about him. This is a song people can relate to without having to go through anything, (like love songs, which I can't relate to because I've never been in love or in a relationship or anything the like) because everyone wants to find just one person who will love them for who they are, regardless.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

No Surprises

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
