I pray for the worst to hear you bitch about the
First real not when the needle hits
Your high five's rolling into a fist
"Oh, God! Turn the radio off!
He's getting into this!"
And your words
They were all that I knew
Until I died on page in your year-end review
Research you don't have a clue
I learned it all from you

You can swear like daggers right before my eyes
You can never be sure
You can switch to blood when the ink is dry
You will never be heard
Now I write words like a target and your aim is poor
So give me your worst I don't feel a thing anymore

My downward path
Don't you forget to mention
You're selling out tickets to my intervention
RSVP you're a hell of a friend
Somehow I'll still sleep tonight
Raised on your dial in a FM hiss
Until I died on the air at the top of your list
Pointing fingers would you ever have guessed that
I learned it all from you

You can swear like daggers right before my eyes
You can never be sure
You can switch to blood when the ink is dry
You will never be heard
Now I write words like a target and your aim is poor
So give me your worst I don't feel a thing
Give your worst I can't feel a thing anymore

They sing it back 'cause we let 'em know that we mean it
Eyes glow in the darkest rooms and I've seen it
I've been thee one down in the front believing
Believing you were the one
You knew the songs I needed

It killed me the first time when I saw the headline
We'll play it loud
We're drowning out
Your jaded heart tonight

I pray for the worst just to hear you bitch about the
Last real note that I'll ever hit
Your high five's rolling into a fist
"Oh, God! Turn the radio off!
He's getting into this!"
Turn the radio off

You can swear like daggers right before my eyes
You can never be sure
You can switch to blood when the ink is dry
You will never be heard
Now I write words like a target and your aim is poor
So give me your worst I don't feel a thing
Give me your worst I can't feel a thing
Give me your worst I don't feel a thing anymore

    My Interpretation

This song is about Adam's frustration with the music press. "Paper Covers Rock" is a double entendre. It refers of course to the rock, paper, scissors move, but also means "newspaper (or, media in general) reports on rock & roll."

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
