I'm not too comfortable to far from the start
Well, I don't find success interesting as art
But I'll build a home
In these broken songs
Like you said I should
Like you understood

I'm not too comfortable to far from the start
When it gets too intimate, then I pull apart
And I carry on
Singing broken songs
Like you said I should
Like you understood

But I'll build a home
In these broken songs
Like you said I should
Like you understood

I'm not too comfortable to fall from the start

General CommentAbsolutely love this song, Tegan sings so beautifully, and Jim Ward does a great job. I think this song is about how hard relationships are to sustain.

    Lyric CorrectionNeeds corrections-
    Should be:
"I'm not too comfortable to far from the start" Far, not fall.
"When it gets too intimate, then I pull apart" Pull, not fall.

General CommentFrontman17 is right, but I think it is not meant restrictedly to relationships. Also in terms of work, bands, music, etc. - in everything new you start there is a bliss of the beginning that is often difficult to sustain.

Btw: There is an interesting connection to the Sparta song "Tensioning", where Jim sings the great line "the bliss of beginning replaced with an end".

General CommentYep. The first part addresses him being more comfortable with the beginning of a project where the music matters rather than years later when you have to deal with success, expectations, band mates, etc.

The second half talks about how she prefers the beginning of relationships when things are new, exciting, more lighthearted and fun and how she has trouble dealing when things get more serious.

Apparently they got the concept while talking over lunch one day. He sent her lyrics and she sent him recordings and a baseline or something. There is an article or video discussing this somewhere that I read/saw.
