Who will penetrate
The tightening muscle
Who will cut across
The thickening skin
Who will be the one
To reach their hand in
And pull out
The golden heart
Who will?
Who will?
Who will
From all the ashes
Who will
Be the one?
Who will lay me down
In green pastures
Or lead me from
The burning sands
Who will
Be the one
To lay their cards down
And always hold
The winning hand?
Who will?
Who will be the one?
From all the ashes
Of all the crashes
Who will?
The tightening muscle
Who will cut across
The thickening skin
Who will be the one
To reach their hand in
And pull out
The golden heart
Who will?
Who will?
Who will
From all the ashes
Who will
Be the one?
Who will lay me down
In green pastures
Or lead me from
The burning sands
Who will
Be the one
To lay their cards down
And always hold
The winning hand?
Who will?
Who will be the one?
From all the ashes
Of all the crashes
Who will?

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
That is a quirky way to look at the song, rhimansworld. I know Patrick said that, but to me this song will always remind me of a lifelong struggle for finding your soul mate. It seems to me Patrick's singing with great pain and frustration. He is on knees trying to find out why all these people in his life weren't the one. All the people he loved broke his heart in some way and he's asking, "Who will be the one/From all the ashes/Of all the crashes'. He's tired of pouring his heart and soul for people who in turn break him down. I love this song because I've been asking myself this question lately, who will be the one? Who will be the fucking one lol. I'm tired and broken and this song is so painful to listen to but I love it. <3 ya Patrick!
This song is so beautiful and touching, and also a bit sad, I think.
I love this song...It means so much to me...But just a few corrections on the lyrics
It's: Who will be the one to reach their hand in and pull out the golden heart?
Then it's crashes, not crushes.
The next verse is: Who will lay me down in green pastures and lead me from the burning sand. Who will be the one to lay their cards down and always hold the winning hand?
From all the ashes of all the crashes, not just ohhhmmm haha :)
This was written in honour of Patrick's great aunt, who was a nun. She never had sex and her ovaries stopped working, so she developed ovarian cancer and eventually died, a bit ironic!
The first line is supposed to be as sexual as it sounds ;)
this may or may not be what patrick meant for it to be, but i always take it as a song of appreciation to people like nurses, firefighters, and good hearted policemen.
"who will penetrate the tightening mucle" makes me think of those nurses in the war who have to give shots or to screaming, tense soldiers. and "who will cut across the thickening skin" reminds me of the same situation, only surgical.
that is just a short explanation of how i feel about it. who will be that person to endure the pain with you, who will pull you out of ashes.
