I feel so unsure
As I take your hand and lead you to the dance floor
As the music dies
Something in your eyes
Calls to mind a silver screen
And all it's sad goodbyes

I'm never going to dance again
These guilty feet have got no rhythm
Though it's easy to pretend
I know you're not a fool
I should have known better than to cheat a friend
And waste a chance that I've been given
So I'm never going to dance again
The way I danced with you
Oh

Time can never mend
The careless whispers of a good friend
To the heart and mind
Ignorance is kind
There's no comfort in the truth
Pain is all you'll find

I'm never going to dance again
These guilty feet have got no rhythm
Though it's easy to pretend
I know you're not a fool
I should have known better than to cheat a friend
And waste a chance that I've been given
So I'm never going to dance again
The way I danced with you
Oh

Tonight the music seems so loud
I wish that we could lose this crowd
Maybe it's better this way
We've hurt each other with the things we want to say
We could have been so good together
We could have lived this dance forever
Now who's going to dance with me?
Please stay

I'm never going to dance again
These guilty feet have got no rhythm
Though it's easy to pretend
I know you're not a fool
I should have known better than to cheat a friend
And waste a chance that I've been given
So I'm never going to dance again
The way I danced with you
Oh

Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh
Oh oh, oh oh, oh oh

    My Interpretation

Interpretations vary. To me, this song starts off by saying that the narrator cheats on his gf, after a while, he remembers he has a lover and the guilts start up. he feels that the girl knows he has a girlfriend and she's pretending she doesn't know anything. he knows she's not stupid. he starts to remember how much his girlfriend really likes him, and how lucky he is to have someone like that and how foolish he is to have thrown all of that away for something temporary. he decides to tell his girlfriend what had happened and she makes it seem that she took it well and didn't cry or say something like, "how could you?" but something more like, "it's okay, it happens." so now he can't comfort her. but the truth is both of them are feeling this massive pain inside of them. He remembers how fortunate he was, and wonders what he would do without her. he wishes there was nothing else in the world besides them so they can fix things. then he wonders if that really would be best or if everything happened for a reason. They both have hid things from eachother and they felt that they sensed something when they didn't. so with all that guilt accumilating, the only one's they really hurt was themselves. they could have made the best of their relationship and could've stayed for a longer time, but they didn't. he wishes she would've stayed and wonders if anyone will ever love him as much as she did. he wonders whyy she really left him. did she not know that he could fix/learn from his mistakes? afterall, he is human just like she is. so he asks her, "Now that youre gone... Was what I did so wrong? So wrong that you had to leave me alone?" because he is wondering if that was the real reason that she had broken up with him, or was there something else that she is not telling him?

hmmphh. basically, i think it's making it seem at first as if the narrator has the fault, but towards the end, it reveals that the lover isn't too inocent.

    i'm only 14. I tried my best. :D

Standing On The Edge Of Summer

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
