I wanted something
That's purer than the water
Like we were

It's not there now
Ineloquence and anger
Are all we have

Like Saturn's rings
An icy loop around me
Too hard to hold

Lash out first
At all the things we don't like
Or understand

[Chorus]
And it's beginning to get to me
That I know more of the stars and sea
Than I do of what's in your head
Barely touching in our cold bed
Are you beginning to get my point
That all this fighting with aching joints
It's doing nothing but tire us out?
No one knows what this fight's about

The answered phone
The lonely sound of your voice
Frozen in time

I only need
The compass that you gave me
To guide me on

[Chorus]

Are you beginning to get my point
That all this fighting with aching joints
It's doing nothing but tire us out?
And no one knows what this fight's about

It's so thrilling but also wrong
Don't have to prove that you are so strong
'Cause I can carry you on my back
After our enemies attack

I tried to tell you before I left
But I was screaming under my breath
You are the only thing that makes sense
Just ignore all this present tense

We need to feel breathless with love
And not collapse under its weight
I'm gasping for the air to fill
My lungs with everything I've lost

We need to feel breathless with love
And not collapse under its weight
I'm gasping for the air to fill
My lungs with everything I've lost

"You are the only thing that makes sense. Just ignore all this present tense."

    Amazing lyrics.

I think this song is not really about a broken relationship. But rather a couple got in a fight, and he irrationally left in a sudden burst of rage. He then starts to regret it, and he wants to apologize, but he can't bring himself to do it. He begins to think about their relationship, the pros and cons. He says that "it's beginning to get to me, that I know more of the stars and sea, than I do of what's in your head". He knows more about other things than he does about her, maybe because she is secretive. "Lash out first, at all the things we don't like, or understand". Maybe this means she has a short fuse. But at the same time he loves her unconditionally. He says "I would carry you on my back, after our enemies attack." He'd do anything for her. And the line "You are the only thing that makes sense, I just ignore all this present-tense". He can't stop thinking about her, and she is the only thing he thinks about. She's the only thing that seems right in the world.

This song is just great, can't believe nobody's commented. Its about a relationship that's on its way down, the girl is drifting apart, and the guy is telling the story of how the relationship is and how it should be... I'm in a long distance relationship, i hope I don't relate to this song Ever.

Wow.. so very few comments on this amazing song. I just can't decide which of the lyrics are the best. Gary Lightbody is such an amazing lyricist.

    My Interpretation

He knows its over but just cant help but reflecting on what it could have been. "Lash out first At all the things we don't like Or understand" Everyone does this especially if their on edge or defence its a really open and true opinion of human nature. For me this song is saying not everyhting has to be so closed down and secretive. The person you love is ment to be the person you know the best, the one you share everything you have with and if you dont have that with that person there is no point this is what the guy wants with this girl but the girl has walls up that he can't get over. "no one knows what this fights about" its the girls way to escape from getting to close. Cool song because usually this situation is portrayed the other way with the girl trying to get in and the guy with all the walls up. Finally a writer who switches it up.

I really enjoy this song. The line, And it's beginning to get to me // That I know more of the stars and sea // Than I do of what's in your head // Barely touching in our cold bed. Sortof reminds me of how easy it is to get sucked into the things of grandiosity, and forget what we ought to value. I think that the couple in the song don't drift too far apart. They are only in the middle of a desert.

i think this is a reflection of the way some people just settle into a relationship. after a time, people get comfortable and they stop putting in effort or lose sight of why they're in a relationship in the first place. they argue and sometimes forget why they love the other person. Here, he takes a step back and says that he "knows more of the stars and sea" than of whats in her head, "barely touching in our cold bed" but that she is "the only thing that makes sense" and that they need "to feel breathless with love". its a very touching song that serves as a reminder: don't forget about who you love and why you love them. all of the arguments and fights aren't worth it when you already have the person you love. this is such a great song.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
