I did it for the kicks and I payed good money too. I played fortune for a Texarcana farmboy in june. I was caught fishin lobster in the devils own pond, so I ran for the door and said "I was keepin it for him!", I said "Leave me alone! I don't need you..."

It was never what I hoped for, somehow everything's too slow. Broken bits and pieces lay scattered on the floor. An evacuated city could not offer me peace, a house full of madness could not cure my disease. Oh lord, wish I could fight it...

All my expectations run like water over bones. When I'm dead I hope they pour good whisky on the edge of my headstone. Them bones, still thirsty don't you know...

Itty bitty children have more questions than they know, sometimes I wish I'd grow young instead of old. All the mysteries of love are not what they're told - it just happens when it happens and then your lost in it - it's a labyrinth, ain't it? Come all young hussies and old ragged whores, tell me your stories and show me your scores. Did you find a medication to alleviate the pain of being a live-wire ...

All my expectations run like water over bones. When I'm dead I hope they pour good whisky on the edge of my headstone. Them bones, still thirsty don't you know...

Find me preacher, a punk, a politician. Serve onto them fine wines and oblivion. For eight silver coins and a kiss just to prove that it was never really yours - now you watch how they scewer it - it's just meat - and you're chewing it...

In a rotten little kingdom where kings and clows alike play tricks with mirrors and shine blinding lights, the flies and hyenas hold out the knife as we peacefully bow down and line up for miles come and get it, times up!

All my expectations run like water over bones. When I'm dead I hope they pour good whisky on the edge of my headstone. Them bones, still thirsty don't you know...

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
