As quiet as it is tonight
You'd almost think you were safe
Your eyes are full of surprises
They cannot predict my fate
Waiting underneath the stars
There's something you should know
The angels they surround my heart
Telling me to let you go

I bet he couldn't
I bet he couldn't recognize
But I played right into it
Who am I to criticize
Somehow I'll get through it and you won't even realize
Falling through your own disguise

It's like over and over you're pushing me right down to the floor
I should just walk away.
Over and over I keep on coming back for more
I play into your fantasy
Now that it's over you can lie to me right through your smile
I've seen behind your eyes
Now it's over, NO more intoxicating my mind

Even the devil wouldn't recognize you, I do
Even the devil wouldn't recognize you, I do
Even the devil wouldn't recognize you, I do
Even the devil wouldn't recognize you, I do
I do, I do

You almost fooled yourself this time
That all the saints be praised
You hide your sadness behind your smile
And you keep your lost heartbreaks
The steps that edge along the ledge
Is much higher than it seems
That I've been on that ledge before
You can't hide yourself from me

I bet he couldn't
I bet he couldn't recognize
But I played right into it
Who am I to criticize
Somehow I'll get through it and you won't even realize
Falling through your own disguise

It's like over and over you're pushing me right down to the floor
I should just walk away.
Over and over I keep on coming back for more
I play into your fantasy
Now that it's over you can lie to me right through your smile
I've seen behind your eyes
Now it's over, NO more intoxicating my mind

Even the devil wouldn't recognize you, I do
Even the devil wouldn't recognize you, I do
Even the devil wouldn't recognize you, I do
Even the devil wouldn't recognize you, I do
I do, I do

It's like over and over you're pushing me right down to the floor
I should just walk away.
Over and over I keep on coming back for more
I play into your fantasy
Now that it's over you can lie to me right through your smile
I've seen behind your eyes
Now it's over, NO more intoxicating my mind

Even the devil wouldn't recognize you, you, you, you
Devil wouldn't recognize you, you, you, you
Devil wouldn't recognize you, you, you, you
Even the devil wouldn't recognize you, but I do
I do, I do

Even the devil wouldn't recognize you.

I definitely think the song is about a guy being a metaphorical wolf in sheep's clothing. Someone so evil and hellbent "even the Devil couldn't recognize" but she does because she's been in that position:

"The steps that edge along the ledge Is much higher than it seems That I’ve been on that ledge before You can’t hide yourself from me"

strike that statement about it being about a guy. It could apply to anyone in her life, really.

Now that she's getting divorced, I guess you could apply this to Guy! Hah.

in some moments in our life we think we can change everything and that we are so clever that "Even the devil wouldn’t recognize you"..loved the part "It’s like over and over you’re pushing me right down to the floor I should just walk away. Over and over I keep on coming back for more"

    My Opinion

I think this song is about her trying to get the guy back, but the guy doesn't want to get hurt again, so he hides his feelings for her. She knows that he still loves her and wants to let him know that she knows he still loves her.

"Even the devil wouldn't recognize you" I DO.

"you can't hide yourself from me"

    Translation

Think of Devil Wouldn't Recognize You-as the beginning of the End with Guy Ritchie and her London period. More importantly, it's a prelude to what would come on Hard Candy's follow-up MDNA. Madonna is clearly in betrayal, sadness and shock! No words need to be explained. There is a deep hurt and sadness in her voice. This song she wrote with her Good Brother Joe speaks for itself. Madonna is very good at conveying and articulating hurt, anguish and sadness in her singing, writing and performance. Some of the Material Girl's better qualities. To Lady Madonna, I say amen. Can I hear an amen, Lady Ciccone? The best chapter from Hard Candy, hands down!

it´s so clear that this song is about a lover who was lying to her and now he´s back and ask her to return, and he promise everything (we suppose that he is another person now,he isn´t the bad guy anymore, etc) but although all his promise she can recognize his lies, "even the devil wouldn´t recognize you, I do"

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
