What a waste of time
The thought crossed my mind
But I never missed a beat
Can't explain the who or what I was
Trying to believe
What would you do?
What would you do?
Do you know?
I once had a grip on everything
It feels better to let go

I'm not over
I'm not over you just yet
Cannot hide it
You're not that easy to forget
I'm not over

Never took the chance
Could've jumped the fence
I was scared of my own two feet
Couldn't cross the line
It was black and white
No contrast to be seen
What would you do?
What would you do
Do you know?
Was it all a joke
Never had control
I'm not better on my own

I'm not over
I'm not over you just yet
Cannot hide it
You're not that easy to forget
I'm not over

What a waste of time
The thought crossed my mind
Can't explain this thing or what I mean
I'm trying to let go

I'm not over
I'm not over you just yet
Cannot hide it
You're not that easy to forget
I'm not over
I'm not over you just yet
Cannot hide it
You're not that easy to forget
I'm not over
I'm not over

    Song Meaning

in my opinion, the guy is not over the girl. he clearly let her go and now he is contemplating about the fact that she is gone. parts of the song, is him talking about somewhat being tricked into being in love, "was it all a joke" he was afraid of falling, but he fell for her, and now she's gone and he's regretting it.

-first hand experience. my ex put this on page, a week after we split, and i was trying to figure out what he meant by it, and it's basically him regretting he let me go.

Ever thought you were doing the right thing letting that girl go, then come to realize it was a huge mistake? She's not that easy to forget...

I'm over the relationship, not the lost friendship. You're not that easy to forget.

That sums up perfectly what this songs about, for me. Letting a girl go and realizing that she was the one who got away.

this song..has been stuck in my head for a while now. awesome song. personally, i think it's about a guy really digs a girl, but keeps it inside for so long, : never took the chance could have jumped the fence i was scared of my own two feet could have crossed the line it was black and white no contrast to be seen and now its too late to do anything. but anybody want to explain : what a waste of time the thought crossed my mind but i never missed a beat cant explain the who or what i was trying to believe ?

I think that the line means that he/she was in denial about their feelings truthfully, it's like the old saying "You don't know what you got til' it's gone"

I agree with the people that say that it's about a guy who let a girl go, and then realized that he was the one missing out.

Between "You're not that easy to forget," "Cannot hide it," and the "It feels better to let go," which later turns to "I'm trying to let go," at the end of the song... It just seems like what makes the most sense.

naynay32 asked what these lines meant... what a waste of time..the thought crossed my mind..but i never missed a beat...cant explain the who or what i was trying to believe .....

Hes just second-guessing himself on how he spent his time pursuing this chik and now she is gone....Kinda like a "wow" moment...what the heck was i doing??? ...and acknowledging now, that while it was going on...maybe he fleetingly realized that it would end up being a waste of time....(the thought crossed my mind but i never missed a beat) ...he did it anyway...and now hes having a hard time explaining it (later on the lyrics say...what would you do???) Dazed and confused and wishing she were still there....

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
