Far, far, there's this little girl
She was praying for something to happen to her
Everyday she writes words and more words
Just to speak out the thoughts that keep floating inside
And she's strong when the dreams come 'cause they
Take her, cover her, they are all over
The reality looks far now, but don't go

How can you stay outside?
There's a beautiful mess inside
How can you stay outside?
There's a beautiful mess inside
Hmm, hmm
Oh, oh, oh, oh

Far, far, there's this little girl
She was praying for something good to happen to her
From time to time there aree colors and shapes
Dazzling her eyes, tickling her hands
They invent her a new world with
Oil skies and aquarelle rivers
But don't you run away already
Please don't go, oh, oh

How can you stay outside?
There's a beautiful mess inside
How can you stay outside?
There's a beautiful mess inside
Take a deep breath and dive
There's a beautiful mess inside
How can you stay outside?
There's a beautiful mess inside

Beautiful
Beautiful

Far, far there's this little girl
She was praying for something big to happen to her
Every night she ears beautiful strange music
It's everywhere there's nowhere to hide
But if it fades, she begs
"Oh Lord, don't take it from me, don't take it yourselves"

I guess I'll have to give it birth
To give it birth
I guess, I guess, I guess I have to give it birth
I guess I have to, have to give it birth
There's a beautiful mess inside and it's everywhere

So shake it yourself now deep inside
Deeper than you ever dared
Deeper than you ever dared
There's a beautiful mess inside
Beautiful mess inside

The depths of one's imagination can be much more captivating than reality. Creating beauty out of the dullness, always hoping there's something more. Giving birth to the beautiful mess inside of you, expressing yourself and turning your dreams into words, quietly.

This is me as well, and so many others. It's spot on; I can't even describe it. What a beautiful song!

    This is me.

    Wow.

I'm a bit of a mess, but I have serious desire to make the music in my mind come to life - out the beautiful mess inside.

I love this album. Although I actually like more of the non-English songs... this is my favorite one that is written in English.

To me, it almost gives out a beacon of hope. Like.. 'dive in and go for it. How couldn't you?'

Reminds me of a Moon Void of Course person - they feel everything on every level, as we other schlups wander thru life just getting from one place to another.

It's all about inspiration and how deep and painful development of all that comes with it can be. Birth ain't easy, LOL.

It's also about appreciating who the hell you are. Oh, and not BSing yourself.

i picture this song about three different things: writing, painting, and music. She is a dreamer, and she thinks her dreams are better than reality. "reality looks far now, but don't go"

She is a sensitive artest type, and she is trying to understand the world round her. the girl is looking at the world and all the people and dosen't understand them so she turns to the arts which is the best way she can express herself.

its like she gets stressed, and she wants to run away inside of herself, but later in the songs she realizes she cant keep it all inside of herself so she "gives birth" to it buy sharing it which i assume she is talking about writing her music.

This song sort of reminds me of myself, really. Not entirely sure what it really means, though.

    My Opinion

I second the above - it's slightly unnerving how accurately this song describes myself.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
