If you were just like me and I was just like you
Would our conversations wiggle like they used too?
And if our relationship was placed in one another's hands
Would our conversations still make any sense at all?

It's better to have nothing when you're lonely
Than what you had before, I've been told too many times.
It happens on occassion when you know just what you want from me
I can't help you anymore

You said I was confusing
You said I'd lost my mind
I'll see it your way
You see it mine

And if our future is to be deteremined by what we feel now
Our only salvation is to pick a side and stay there
Tomorrow i will be here as long as the door is open
Or close my mouth and never speak again
Someday i'll find the courage to really speak my mind
Saying there is more than you and I

If you were just like me
And i was just like you
Would our conversations still make any sense at all?

General CommentClearly about people in a relationship that isn't what it was when it started. The singer wants to keep it going, but he doesn't know what to do with the other person. So he is giving them the choice of getting back together or he will leave forever.

Easy to empathize with if you have ever dated someone who didn't feel quite the way you did about them.
