There's something in the air tonight
A feeling that you have that could change your life
There's something burning up inside
I reach out for you and our hearts collide

With hearts on fire I reach out to you tonight
With hearts on fire I reach out to you tonight
Hearts on fire I reach out to you tonight
With hearts on fire I reach out to you tonight

With hearts on fire I reach out to you tonight (x4)

We're searching for a love alive,
We're drowning in the silence as we walk the night
Your hand is out and brushes mine
A moment that is frozen as we hang in time

With hearts on fire I reach out to you tonight
With hearts on fire I reach out to you tonight
Hearts on fire I reach out to you tonight
With hearts on fire I reach out to you tonight

With hearts on fire I reach out to you tonight (x4)

This song is so good it's so good to just tune out to and dance. It's one of those songs where you listen and you have no sense of time you can just lose yourself especially if you have someone special to dance with!

It's about an encounter with somebody and theres that feeling that it's time for something to change between the two people and the spark begins...

It almost seems like a once off oppurtunity or moment as if the next day it will all be a memory or something

gorgeous cut copy synths make a welcome return!!

love, pure love. like the sparkly euphoria of being drunk and making a random connection with someone, which, come to think of it, is all anyone ever really wants from a night out.

such an amazing song. these guys have reinvented the live music scene! the lyrics here are wrong though. in the second verse its "We're searching for a love alike, We're drowning in the silence as we walk the night Your hand is out and brushes mine A moment that is frozen as we hang in time".

the lyrics send shivers down my spine. what is being described here is magical. love the contrasting images of fire vs night.

I think the meaning's pretty obvious. Sounds a lot like New Order in a lot of places too, particularly at the end.

Thanks timmyd, but I actually can't hear him say "We're" in that first line. It really does sound like "I've been" ...

You can't truly appreciate this song until you've heard it live! I know it did it for me!

    Lyric Correction

There's another lyric mistake which is clear to anyone who has worked in the music industry like myself. The main chorus should read "With Hearts On Fire I Reach Out To Jules Tonight".

This is a personal reference by Cut Copy frontman Dan Whitford to his mate Julian Gilchrist who is playing the saxophone outtro from about 2m 15s into the song. Jules is the genius behind this sound that gradually takes your heart on a soaring emotional ride through the latter half of this song.

Unfortunately Julian died of a massive heart attack induced by his enormous cocaine habit during the final recording session of this album, a party described by those who were there as a party that would have made a Fleetwood Mac recording session look like bible studies.

My mate Jules is a legend and I want people to know about his contribution to this song. Thanks and peace brothers.

Holiday

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
