Everyone makes the same wave
At the same time
(like pebbles on water)
And we call all those interrupting lines
(sons and daughters)
A community
So lets join hands in song
Blessed unity

But brother, I don't wanna know you
I don't even wanna know you
And sister, I don't wanna know you
I don't even wanna know you

But we're trapped
In this lovely mess
I hold you close and smile
Fake, like they do way out west

So many medicines
For so many heads
And I'd help you clean the skeletons
From under your bed but

I don't even know you
How could it be me that sends you?
Darling, didn't your mama
Tell you not to let no stranger bend you?
Probably someone here that could
Help to mend you
But it's not me
Got my own anxiety

Sadness isn't any way to explain
You'll probably crash heads throughout
(i know you're crying tonight,)
The force of this place
(no end in sight)

It's as simple as the way
You wear your untied shoes(?)
And your righteous brades (????)
But all I know is your blues
Ain't like my blues
And why would they be?
If there's one commonality
It's that that feeling is mutual
Given time, you'll see
You'll see

    here's what I can hear...

But it’s not me Got my own anxiety Sadness isn’t any way to explain You’ll probably crash heads throughout Possibly slain*

It’s as simple as the way you wear your [something]** shoes And your righteous rays*** (a rainbow) But all I know is your blues Ain’t like my blues And why would they ever be

If there’s one commonality, it’s that that feeling is mutual Given time you’ll see You’ll see

    • There's definitely something here, "possibly" sounds right, "slain" is harder to make out and might be something else

** This word doesn't sound like either umpire or untied to me. Please, if anyone has more ideas, please post them. The phrase might also be "[something] issues"

*** This word could be damn near anything, but it didn't sound like "face" to me.

It's not "like pebbles on water" or "like petals on water", it's "like bubbles on water"...

hmmm...while i do appreciate the great concern for lyrical accuracy here, isnt the name of the website songmeanings.net? i mean no one has said a thing about the meaning yet.

Personally the song is about the role of pretense in our society. the song, to me, is about the lengths people go to in order to look unique, which of course makes us all look the same.

Humans are intangibly intertwined with one another, but without any true human compassion in a world of proud individuals, quandaries such as war, famine, injustice, and oppression will not be remedied without a proactive society that works as a single unit.

I think you guys are right, about you know, the " feel the love " vibe, and the people who aren't feeling compassion for others. I always personalized it, and thought of it as a relationship, like you know, a partner doesn't want to feel for the other and they don't share the same sad feelings.

Like me and my ex, we had different things we thought of as blues. She was worried about herself, I was worried about others.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
