Shoot the runner
Shoot, shoot the runner
I'm a king and she's my queen

Shoot the runner
Shoot, shoot the runner
I'm a king and she's my queen

Dream
Dream of getting your way
Always knew that you would
Lose yourself to the scene
Am I only a dream?

Shoot the runner
Shoot, shoot the runner
I'm a king and she's my queen, bitch

Bang
Bang away with my Chang (my Chang)
Always know that I can
Get you onto the floor
Absinthe makes you a whore

Shoot the runner
Shoot, shoot the runner
I'm a king and she's my queen

Shoot the runner
Shoot, shoot the runner
I'm a king and she's my queen, bitch

Kings
Kings may come and then go
By this sword you must know
All things come and then pass
Live your days like the last

Ah
You're my queen, I said
Shoot, shoot the runner
'Cause I'm a king yeah, and you're my queen, bitch

would you all like to know what this song realy means, well incase you ar'nt aware tom is an ex heroin addict and "the runner" means heroin. when you smoke heroin you run it but it is much better to inject it or shoot it hence shoot the runner. also when he says im the king its because of the way gear makes you feel and if anyone know the song lsf he refers to a polyfonic prostitute, this is the queen coz if ur on heroin it feels better than sex and u realy dont need a girlfriend so he says im the king she's my queen biatch and any users no this mean the drugs are his bitch. and it is chang not chain if you watch the official video you will see tom doing a gesture at the same time as he sings this line of sniffing somthing off a card. do not dispute these are facts that have been kept secret for good reasons. every kasabian song has some reference of context to heroin or drug abuse or the consequences- if you listen you will notice. luckily not many of you know anything about gear so you wont understand but that dont mean that it im not spot on. and if you dont belive me about tom being a junkie or ex junkie check out youtube interviews and you will see one where he is drinking methadone blatantly on camera. Kasabian also means the butcher or slaughterer which is what doing heroin does, its a killer please listen to toms ranting with open eyes that he is rich and can aford to be the way he is, and in the words of liam gallager dont put your life in the hands of a rock and roll band and throw it alll away. Having said that I love Kasabian and think Tom is very talented and definatley part of the best modern brit band ever. peace and stay safe and never share injecting equipment goodnight

the runner= a girl who lives the fast life.

shooting her? tying her down, probably in a relationship. hence the 'you're my queen, bitch'. it's not about respect, it's about wanting her so bad he's willing to strap her in, basically.

Idk It kinda seems like they are talking about a girl trying to leave. The runner could actually being refering to the queen. That was my first impression.

I have absolutely NO idea what this song is about lyric-wise, though when it comes to the music, I think it is one of the best songs these days. Pure rock. And the way Tom Meighan screams "Bitch" just before the rocking spiced up Queen-inspired (?) guitar solo as the finale makes this song just brilliant (for me). We need more songs like this one!

The first time I heard this song it was playing in the background of a vid of a Lindsay Lohan shoot.. to me it kind of embodies a girl like that, just someone who is completely being young, rebellious, living maybe a bit too dangerously, and who is very sexy. The song is about a relationship with this girl, maybe even just a one night stand or a heated short term fling.. When he sings "Always knew you would lose yourself to the scene, am I only a dream" he's talking about the party scene, drinking drugs, etc.. and it kind of seems like she's in control of things, he's kind of under her spell, and he knows he wont be there long, as when he sings "kings may come and then go"

    anyone else have input?

"Chang" is a term used in Liverpool for Cocaine, not sure whether it extends to Leicester, Kasabian's hometown.

I reckon "bitch" is just added to the song because it's colloquial, and for no significant meaning. for example, Dave Chappelle's "I'm Rik James, Bitch!" Why bitch there? No reason.

Is he actually king? is it a metaphor that he is powerful? more powerful than the "runner"?

Not entirely sure on the overall meaning, but sex, power and philosophy (live you days like the last) all come into it.

I have another theory, could be a metaphor for shooting deserters. He wants to shoot her before she gets away. She's my queen, bitch.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
