I heard you on the radio
Some other time
From some forgotten studio
Way down the line
So long, so long I've waited now
To hear you again
That song, that song will still remain
It's become an old friend
And now, the tears are in my eyes
The sound you can't disguise
The truth comes back from lies
And all I want to hear

Voice of America, ooh, America
Voice of America, ooh, America

And then you came in stereo
Calling to me
And so I watch the videos
Across the TV
That sound, still ringing in my ears
From a decade ago
Around, around my head, the sound from my radio
I thought, that after all these years
The tears, the growing fears
That I would never hear
Never again

Voice of America, ooh, America
Voice of America, ooh, America

I don't know what it means to me exactly, but I have this vision of a completely - or nearly completely - abandoned Earth. Maybe a steven-king-esque virus has killed off all of humanity, or maybe we've just all gone somewhere better, but in any case, there's a radio transmitter powered off some very stable and long-lasting source (water cooled solar panels?) and a timer, and every day at 3 PM it plays this song. And then it's not quite so sad that everybody's gone.

Obviously the 'original' Voice Of America was a powerful shortwave station sponsered by the American government to spread pro-american propiganda. But I stronlgy doubt that's what the song is about, since I don't think they ever broadcast in stereo..

    My Interpretation

I think the song is more about two old friends (perhaps former sweethearts) who went their separate ways. This is a time before the age of the Internet, communication is more difficult and the two eventually lose contact.

A decade later, one of them phones in on a radio station and requests a song they both used to like, in the hopes that their friend will be listening in at the same time.

Fortunately, the friend (the singer) begins to weep as a wave of nostalgia settles in their heart. They haven't forgotten their old friend and they long to be with them. The opportunity to be reunited is just a phone call away.

This song was apparently a tribute to the influence of Brian Wilson songs upon the writers (Wetton and Downes)

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
