Well, it's a big, big city and it's always the same
Can never be too pretty, tell me your name
Is it out of line
If I was to be bold to say, "Would you be mine"?
Because I may be a beggar and you may be the queen
I know I may be on a downer, I'm still ready to dream
Though it's three o'clock
The time is just the time it takes for you to talk

So if you're lonely
Why'd you say you're not lonely?
Oh, you're a silly girl
I know I heard it so
It's just like you to come and go
And know me
No, you don't even know me
You're so sweet to try
Oh my, you caught my eye
A girl like you's just irresistible

Well, it's a big, big city and the lights are all out
But it's as much as I can do, you know, to figure you out
And I must confess
My heart's in broken pieces and my head's a mess
And it's four in the mornin' and I'm walkin' along
Beside the ghost of every drinker here who's ever done wrong
And it's you, woo-hoo
That's got me goin' crazy for the things you do

So if you're crazy
I don't care you amaze me
But you're a stupid girl
Oh me, oh my, you talk
I die, you smile, you laugh, I cry
And only
A girl like you could be lonely
And it's a cryin' shame
If you would think the same
A boy like me's just irresistible

So if you're lonely
Why'd you say you're not lonely?
Oh, you're a silly girl
I know I heard it so
It's just like you to come and go
And know me
No, you don't even know me
You're so sweet to try
Oh my, you caught my eye
A girl like you's just irresistible

"well its a big big city and its always the same"- Lots of girls, same old same old bimbos. wants somethin abit different. "can never be too pretty tell me your name" - Wants somethin more exciting"

"cos i my be a begger and u maybe the queen" - Meets tgthis amazing girl that stands out. he feels inferior hence the begger and shes like this grreeat person....The Queen.

This girl first messes with him, but in a playfull way....at first he doesnt realise she could be sum1 special...then "yoh my, you caught my eye" he likes her...shes "irresistable"

Verse 2 - "And it's 4 in the morning, and I’m walking along Beside the ghost of every drinker here who has ever done wrong And it's you, woo hoo" he is walkin back from somewhere then realises he is with this amazinng girl hence the "and its you - woo hoo"

Chorus 2 - "So if your crazy I don't care you amaze me" - he is amazed by her crazyness. he loves it. "shes a stupid girl" - but he lovces it. he worships her, she talks, he dies, he now asks "a girl like you could be lonely"? its like omg, how can someone like u be so lonely its not possible. "its a crying shame" to think that she could be lonely. he wants her to think he is just as irrresistable. "So if your lonely, why'd you say you're not lonely" - shes lying about her not really being lonely either because she doesnt want to be with him..."its just like u to come and go" shes arrived but now she is gone ....shes irresistable but he cant let go and he will persist..

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
