Words can make you feel like feathers
But all my friends they know you better
I know, we all know, the same excuse
It does not make it true

it's dark down there
You need a flashlight
Your artificial light will not do
I'm not looking for a fight
But you should see
A different point of view
Before these words have lost their use
And we are talking like it's too late
Is it too late?
(it was two years ago)

I can't handle the situation
If I can't figure out how to steer this
Let's not speak of this ever again
And never again
As if it's in the past
Because your lies all seem to match
But the truth is you're addicted
And your friends know
Despite the lies
You swear to god they are true

don't talk about it now
Don't you know that shit will kill you?
No, can't talk about it now

it's dark down there
You need a flashlight
Yeah, it's so dark down there
You need a flashlight
Yeah, it's so dark down there
Gimme a flashlight
It's so dark down there
Gimme a flashlight

you've lost control
And we won't save you

One of the catchier choruses from Punchline. Damn good song. I think this song is about an ex gf that lied, cheated etc until he broke up with her. And her personal friends are all trying to make her feel better and "right" about the breakup.

"and your friends know despite the lies you swear to god they are true"

the songs actually about the guitarist paul who left the band because he was addicted to heroine. "and we are talking like it's too late is it too late? (it was two years ago)" thats why Action was their last CD in 2004 since 37 everywhere

"but the truth is you're addicted and your friends know"

"don't talk about it now don't you know that shit will kill you?"

Anthony Raneri from Bayside also is in the song providing backup vocals

sublimehockey, I'm glad you cleared that up; I had a theory that it was about someone who was addicted to drugs.

i am friends with people who know these guys and i have heard that this song has to do with one of the guys from the band the composure, another pittsburgh band, who was or still is addicted to heroin. it could be about paul but i have heard that its about the guy from the composure.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
