This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
On a night like this
I could fall in love
I could fall in love with you
In this dark so dense
We talk so soft
The way young lovers do
The days last sight
Turns to cool nights breeze
And this love hangs thick like these willow leaves
I've hid myself away from this
But your silhouette is the Judas kiss
On a night like this
I could fall in love
I could fall in love with you
I could fall in love
I could fall in love with you
In this dark so dense
We talk so soft
The way young lovers do
The days last sight
Turns to cool nights breeze
And this love hangs thick like these willow leaves
I've hid myself away from this
But your silhouette is the Judas kiss
On a night like this
I could fall in love
I could fall in love with you

Magical

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
American Town

Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
Plastic Bag

“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
The Judas Kiss he is referring to is the fact that her silhouette in the dark betrays his true, suppressed feelings of love for her. I believe, he's been hiding ('hid myself from this') his love for this girl and the moment, mood and atmosphere they are in is just perfect--perfect enough to reveal how he truly feels for her.
This song is so sweet and amazing. Its softness, that of Dave Barnes, calls to my heart. It makes me want to go out and fall in love while walking under a dark night sky with a million stars to guide us.
The words and the melody and the over all song is just so simple but at the same time it's perfect. The song itself captures love and the wanting and yearning to be with someone you're madly in love with.
Beautiful song. Everything comes together so perfectly.
I thought I knew what this song was about until I read the lyrics! I thought he was saying "true love's kiss" - which makes sense with the romantic vibe of the song - but it's "Judas kiss"? Judas greeted Jesus with a kiss on the cheek the day he betrayed Jesus to Romans, so a "Judas kiss" would be a betrayal, not a sweet romantic moment. Anyone have thoughts? I don't know much about Dave Barnes, this song randomly popped up on my Pandora. Is it about being with someone who seems right in the moment ("on a night like this, you seem perfect") but is actually bad for you?

I still am having a problem with "A Judas Kiss". I think the song is about unrequited love. He is falling in love with her but knows deep down she will never love him back. "I hid myself away from this" is him wanting her to love him but in her silhouette he sees something that shows she never will.
