"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
Where have all the people gone
Whose lives are no longer of use to them?
But this system by its habit forming myths
But this single file is so contagious
Black eyes breed gossip like
These perverts and perversions alike
Just like this perverts and perversions
Hibernate while you're still young
You are getting older
So much older
So much older than you think still
Not far but years away
Your hands'll snake out in a serpent smile
Crank the tap.
Itch.
Brimming with suspicions
The burrows are brimming with suspicions
Where have all the people gone
Whose guns are gold cold son of a bitch
“I'll travel anywhere I like"
He says "I'll travel anywhere I please.”
Your guns, big guns, suck life.
These perverts and perversions alike
Just like this perverts and perversions
Hibernate while you're still young
You are getting older
So much older
So much older than you think still
Not far but years away
Your hands'll snake out in a serpent smile
Crank the tap.
Itch.
Brimming with suspicions
The burrows are brimming with suspicions
Where have all the trumpets gone,
that played us "la-da da-da-daaa"?
The priest’s on the boat
And hell is on its way
Whose lives are no longer of use to them?
But this system by its habit forming myths
But this single file is so contagious
Black eyes breed gossip like
These perverts and perversions alike
Just like this perverts and perversions
Hibernate while you're still young
You are getting older
So much older
So much older than you think still
Not far but years away
Your hands'll snake out in a serpent smile

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
I think this song is about biend hypnotized by the goverment
There are some lyrics missing. It should be:

Where have all the trumpets gone, that played us "la-da da-da-daaa"?
The priest’s on the boat And hell is on its way
the outro to this song is so damn good
this seems to be about the pressures to conform as you grow older, whether it be in the music industry or in other aspects in life. and the "itch" we have to "travel" anywhere we'd like.
the reference to a priest suggests that society preaches how we all should live our lives.
To me this song is about how easy and contagious it is to falll into the "system" -"But this system bites habit forming But this single file is so contagious" and theres no more original people" Where have all the people gone Whose guns are gold cold son of a bitch " they all just fall into the "system" and don't care about being themselves cause it's easier to just fall in line.
Also it sounds more like "But this system BITES habit forming myths" but thats just me
by the way this is one of my favorite songs on the cd it just grooves right with me...if that makes any sence.
Conforming into society even when you want to do other things because it's easier and it's almost as if it's out of default. Also knowing that conforming is bleak but it's inevitable. D:
