Heysátan
Höfðum þau hallí ró
En ég sló
Ég sló tún
Ég hef slegið fjandans nóg
En ég sló
Heysátan
Þá fer að fjúka út
Út í mó.. (ég dró)
Heyvagn á massey ferguson
Því hann gaf undan
Og mér fótur rann... andskotann
Ég varð undan
Og nú hvíli hér
Með beyglað der
Og sáttur halla nú höfði hér
Höfðum þau hallí ró
En ég sló
Ég sló tún
Ég hef slegið fjandans nóg
En ég sló
Heysátan
Þá fer að fjúka út
Út í mó.. (ég dró)
Heyvagn á massey ferguson
Því hann gaf undan
Og mér fótur rann... andskotann
Ég varð undan
Og nú hvíli hér
Með beyglað der
Og sáttur halla nú höfði hér

From the translation and the comments I've read... a question comes to my mind: is this what a hay-cutter is?
If so, we know how the farmer died...
In fact, in the lyrics the narrator even mentions the hay cutter's brand: Massey Ferguson. And he tells us he slipped and fell under the carriage.

I think it speaks about the farmer falling from the tractor and into the way of the hay cutter blades. Realizing he won't be able to dodge them, he lies there, thinking about the life he had during his last second alive... and rests his head with contentment.
