Midnight
And I'm a-waiting on the twelve-oh-five
Hoping it'll take me just a little farther down the line

Moonlight
You're just a heartache in disguise
Won't you keep my heart from breaking
If it's only for a very short time

Playing with the Queen of Hearts
Knowing it ain't really smart
The Joker ain't the only fool
Who'll do anything for you

Laying out another lie
Thinking 'bout a life of crime
'Cause that's what I'll have to do
To keep me away from you

Honey, you know it makes you mad
Why is everybody telling everybody what you have done?
Baby, I know it makes you sad
But when they're handing out the heartaches
You know you got to have you some

Playing with the Queen of Hearts
Knowing it ain't really smart
The Joker ain't the only fool
Who'll do anything for you

Laying out another lie
Thinking 'bout a life of crime
'Cause that's what I'll have to do
To keep me away from you

Lovers, I know you've had a few
But hide your heart beneath the covers
And tell 'em they're the only one
And others, they know just what I'm going through
And it's a-hard to be a lover when you say you're only in it for fun

Playing with the Queen of Hearts
Knowing it ain't really smart
The Joker ain't the only fool
Who'll do anything for you

Playing with the Queen of Hearts
And knowing it ain't really smart
The Joker ain't the only fool
Who'll do anything for you

Laying out another lie
Thinking 'bout a life of crime
'Cause that's what I'll have to do
To keep me away from you

Playing with the Queen of Hearts
Playing with the Queen of Hearts
Playing with the Queen of Hearts
Playing with the Queen of Hearts

    My Interpretation

"The Queen of Hearts" is the one, the one you really want. The Joker is the next floozy. He's playing hard to get and she's about to (try) to get away. He never cuts her any slack, never gives her a moment to think "Maybe" he's going to keep her heart from breaking. Not even in bed! And she doesn't have to catch him cheating, he sends people to tell her what he's doing. And he gets upset, but really, he's the one doing it.

The woman is either a stalker or the best thing that could happen to him! But either way he's the one pulling the strings, it looks like.

Midnight And I'm a-waitin' On the twelve-o-five Hopin' it'll take me Just a little farther down the line

It's the middle of the night, she's on the run, trying to get to "safety" but probably metaphorically

Moonlight You're just a heartache in disguise Won't you keep my heart from breakin' If it's only for a very short time

Moonlight is his sweet, romantic side. She's like, "Give me something to believe in, even if it's a lie."

Playing with the Queen of Hearts Knowin' it ain't really smart

Kinda dumb to "Play" with the queen of your heart

The Joker ain't the only fool Who'll do anything for you

Why mess with another player when You've got me hook, line and sinker?

    Laying out another lie

"I'm trying to make up a story that will make all this work, maybe lying to myself"

Thinkin' 'bout a life of crime 'Cos that's what I'll have to do To keep me away from you

I am getting desperate to fix this, even if it means getting away from you

Honey, you know it makes you mad Why is everybody tellin' everybody What you have done

I'm not spying, you're just not keeping your secrets

Baby, I know it makes you sad But when they're handin' out the heartaches You know you got to have you some

It's not me you're trying to hurt, you're sabotaging the best thing you've got going

    (See above for chorus)

Lovers, I know you've had a few But hide your heart beneath the covers And tell 'em they're the only one

I know I'm not the first, but I'd like to think I'm the one that matters now!

And others, they know just What I'm going through And it's a-hard to be a lover When you say you're only in it for fun

I know you care, don't keep trying to hurt me, don't make it hard to pretend!

    Song Meaning

twelve o five: five past twelve meaning it's already too late for real change. Waiting/hoping for a little change to cope with it and get trough.

Moonlight = romance, passion but in this case it brings continued heartache

Playing with the queen of hearts: she's playing with her heart, knowing it's not really smart. She knows she's a fool. She will do anything for him.

Laying down another lie: she has to do a crime to get her away of him, but she is not going to do that, not a true solution, just another lie like her relationship that's not the real thing.

He also got his share of heartache, trying to unsuccesfully hide it, his reputation gone bad. Everthing is in the open. Everyone knows what he's doing and how she's feeling.

Nobody's commented yet? Come on! This is a great song. Juice is a great country-pop singer with a great voice. I think this is about an ex or soon-to-be-ex-lover who she's really attracted to, but knows is bad for her.

I always figured that the "Queen of Hearts" is a woman you desire but is either far out of your league and/or much more experienced in the game of love.

However, you just can't help being lured back to her, she'll always be a few moves ahead but yet you just keep chasing.

The "Joker" is just a reference to cards, the phrasing of "Joker ain't the only fool..." implied to me that you are the fool here. Like a moth to a flame.

    But yeah, nice song.

This song could mean: "I know I'm out of your league and don't need all this pain you cause but I just can't resist you. But if you keep 'Playing with the queen of hearts, knowing it ain't really smart" (her) he's in for a surprise and will regret losing her later in life.

    My Interpretation

I pretty much agree with floyd...

She has a guy she can't manage to get over and she's running wild being easy just to make herself get over him. Kinda like my sister is doing with her ex right now lol

Midnight verse: waiting for midnight to run the streets to get him off her

moonlight verse: nights are the loneliest but she's hoping she'll make it through the night

Chorus: perhaps she's calling herself the queen of hearts who's gonn a do what she has to do to get over? The joker ain't the only fool because she also will do anything for him? Laying out another lie, thinking about a life of crime... just another part of this wild life? These guys she's sleeping with are only temporary so she plays the part by lying. Or lying to everyone else because she's too ashamed to admit she's been wh*ring around? Lol

Honey verse: everyone is gossiping about what's going on between them. He knows what she's doing is bothering him, but everyone heart breaks sometime?

Lovers verse: she knows he's sleeping around also so go ahead and lie to them as you've lied to me. And others understand what she's doing now also, playing the part, sleeping around with ppl that mean nothing to her.

    Love sucks like that.

    My Interpretation

"Playing with the Queen of Hearts" can mean flirting seductively; the problem with which is that you don't only get attention from the one you want (the "Joker"), but also from undesirables.

One solution is to go on the run ("a life of crime"), both to keep the undesirables away and avoid the heartbreak and stress from orbiting your target body.

My take on this is that the song is about someone pretending to like another person on a personal level while they're really only interested in sex:

"And it's a-hard to be a lover When you say you're only in it for fun" "playing with the queen of hearts"--> I'd say she means playing a women's heart

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
