I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
I'm a sailor peg
And I've lost my leg
Climbing up the top sails
I've lost my leg
I'm shipping up to Boston, whoa
I'm shipping up to Boston, whoa
I'm shipping up to Boston, whoa
I'm shipping off to find my wooden leg
I'm a sailor peg
And I've lost my leg
Climbing up the top sails
I've lost my leg
I'm shipping up to Boston, whoa
I'm shipping up to Boston, whoa
I'm shipping up to Boston, whoa
I'm shipping off to find my wooden leg
And I've lost my leg
Climbing up the top sails
I've lost my leg
I'm shipping up to Boston, whoa
I'm shipping up to Boston, whoa
I'm shipping up to Boston, whoa
I'm shipping off to find my wooden leg
I'm a sailor peg
And I've lost my leg
Climbing up the top sails
I've lost my leg
I'm shipping up to Boston, whoa

I'm shipping off to find my wooden leg

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Midnight
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms.
“Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
A lot of the Irish when they immigrated to the U.S in the 1800s, established residency in places like New York and Boston (Prominently). They were able to crawl up the ranks of society but only after sacrificing parts of their culture. I think that's kind of what he's referring to. He "lost his leg" (lost something special to him i.e his culture), "climbing up the top sails" (climbing up the class ladder). But in the opposite sense, he's shipping off the Boston to "find his leg" too (i.e find financial security for himself and possibly his family in America).
i don't think the song is about pirates either. like deathbeforedishonor said, there is nothing about pirates in the video, and I think the wooden leg is more of a symbol than an actual pegleg. I think the leg is a symbol for stability in life, and that he's a sailor in life who has lost his "leg," meaning his footing in high society, "the topsails." The wooden leg is a symbol for replacement, of finding new stability, which he hopes to do in Boston.
This song talks about a free man (as a sailor is) who always takes risks and tries to achieve the impossible (climbing up the topsails) but finally, he may have to deal with the problems arising from the risks he took (I've lost my leg)
now, probably Boston is something like a place that he will make a new beggining and find his salvation (his wooden leg)
So, the basic idea appears to be the story of a great risk taker, who finaly, as it happens with every one who is taking too many risks, had a hard fall from the top sails and he is now looking for a new beggining
I personally truley believe, That what the meaning is!!

He is from boston, shit happens you gotta go well after being gone for so long and missing home so much, your ready to do anything if it means you can go home and be home where your from!!- So there is your meaning of "shipping up to boston".

Onto the "Find my wooden leg" means its better to be able to hobble and walk/run around home comfortably than be on the run. . .Meaning he's finding his way home

"Sailor Peg" - meaning hardcore will steal wil fight and do whatever it takes to be On Top!! and "Top Sails"- meaning they was getting there and they were making it - than (As said Before)Shit happens and the "Aunthority" wants you bad (wheather your a hooligan punk thief or a man who will do anything to make mad money!!)

So there ya go he a man thats, Shipping up to Boston(going home) to find his leg (Tired of running/Cant do it anymore) Lost his leg (just cant run anymore)

Also meaning of "wooden leg" maybe if he had no wooden leg boston would be the place to help him stand!! True Friends/family back you ANYTIME, EVERYTIME without question!!

I think the song is about the Boston teaparty, in the year 1773. The Boston Tea Party was a massacre on a ship full of tea. Some colonists attacked a boat full of tea, in a protest on the Taxes in USA, people hadn't money to buy what they want, and especially tea, was expensive. Some colonists arranged and murdered every passanger and sailormen on the boat. The sailorman in the text is just an innocent worker who tried to escape by climb up the mast, but someone cut off his leg. The protesters destroyed the boat in a symbolic way, by throwing it into the Boston Bay, the place where it was supposed to anchor.
Great song, i love Dropkick Murphys.
I think you are mixing up the Boston Massacre with the Boston Tea Party. For the Tea party all they did was dump all the tea from 3 ships, dressed "disguised" as Mohawk Indians. No murders lol.

Anyway Jriemermon is correct...

These lyrics are not from Dropkick Murphy but from Woody Guthrie. A quick Google search can tell you that. Guthrie was a common folk singer, so all this trying to find really deep meaning to this song is futile. (Palm to face)
I am a pirate.... Cannonball Willy is my name ;D And I love the song.
This song is excellent.
Its also used in The Departed.
yarrr! where's the scurvy!
if any song is gonna bring pirates it's this song...

Haha, I love this song. Obviously no hidden meanings here.
