Tonight the neon answers flare.
Occasionally we stop and stare past tiny paintings painted where,
aLl the clouds were wrong.
With killer stares and sideways frowns,
in keeping with, the universe all upside down, twice.
And broken legs and arms in slings, you cry
Secretly, but won't wear my diamond ring why?

A billion cares, a thousand stings you cry secretly.
choose the chapter where they start fights.
And millionaires have bought this town and changed everything.
I found you in the lost and found, white. white white!

Love this song, but i think the second 'You cry secretly' is actually 'We lie frequently'

Ahh, one of my favourite Architecture in Helsinki songs. I just can't get over the passion in their voices when they say "fight fight fight" and "white white white." It makes me want to jump up and yell.

What I think it's about is that he proposed to a girl, and she agreed, but won't wear the engagement rings? And everything around them is changing because they know and disapprove of it.

    Just a guess. ;D

I'm pretty sure in the fourth line it's "You cry sick of me."

i always thought the last couple of lines were "i found you in a lost and found, why, why why?"

that resonates with me because of a relationship i had that started with a girl coming to town, and it just seemed both accidental and fateful at the same time that we met, because i fell in love with her and all.

but now, 3 years later, she's pretty much done all she could to ruin my life, so i'm listening to "small town witch" by sneaker pimps quite a lot as well.

God, this song is so beautiful! It's so sad. But the hurt, timid and staggered voice he uses in the second stanza is so perfect, but it gets more and more angry as the song progresses. IT's sad that all of the songs on this album are so short, as they are all amazing. Protero Hill is possibly the greatest interlude in all of music.

Ministry
Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

When We Were Young
Blink-182
This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
