You got a reaction
You got a reaction didn't, you?
You took a white orchid
You took a white orchid turned it blue

Something better than nothing
Something better than nothing, it's giving up
We all need to do something
Try and keep the truth from showing up

How dare you
How old are you now, anyway?
How dare you
How old are you now, anyway?

How dare you
How old are you now, anyway?

You're given a flower
But I guess that there's just no pleasing you
Your lips tastes sour
But you think that it's just me teasing you

You got a reaction
You got a reaction, didn't you?
You took a white orchid
You took a white orchid turned it blue

Get behind me
Get behind me now, anyway
Get behind me
Get behind me now, anyway

Get behind me
Get behind me now, anyway

You got a reaction
You got a reaction, didn't you?
You took a white orchid
You took a white orchid turned it blue

I was looking up "blue orchid" on google and found a bunch of articles about "The Blue Orchid Case" which was an investigation and arrest of a group of Russians involved in this worldwide child pornography ring. "blue orchid" was the name of their website.

I don't completely get how the lyrics work into this but it seems like something Jack would care about because of his whole interest in childhood innocence.

The "you took a white orchid and turned it blue" would make sense meaning the child is pure and these people abused them and left them 'blue' or mentally disturbed for the rest of their lives.

    My Interpretation

I went through all comments and didn't find the interpretation that would feel totally right for me.

I think we all agree that the song is about thoughtless devastation of something valuable and pure. What can be so sacred to Jack that its violation pisses him off to that level? I'm sure it's his art and privacy. Another time while reading the lyrics I had an association with the statement Jack directed to his pseudo-fans registered to vault (if you haven't heard about the case, the vault members are given an opportunity to buy limited vinyls at a bargain price and some of them made a business from reselling them on ebay at a few times higher price; which of course pissed Jack off and made him stop offering these gifts to valt members for some time). Although this happened a long time after he had written this song, I sense the same anger and see similar statements.

So in my opinion the white orchid symbolises the gift of music that was given to the audience. However, the music is not enough for media and fans who want to know everything about musician's private life, corner him, want to have everything given on a plate. The artist's reaction is complete withdrawal from media.

The first verse says: We had a magical connection and you ruined it with your insistence that made us limit our contacts. Is that what you wanted? 2: You better be pleased with this what we provide you or else you won't get anything. We have right to keep our privacy for ourselves. 3:We gave you the most valuable thing - our art but it wasn't enough for you. Sad that you don't see a bad thing in your gross behaviour (you think that you have right to break into our lives) and consider our reaction exaggerated.

How dare you? Don't be so immature. Go to hell you media and pseudo-fans! Let us play music and leave our privacy alone!

Well, I never realized he said "you took a white orchid" I always thought he said "you took my orchid" and just had a little "uh" sound between "took" and "my." But using these lyrics it seems to be about a relationship, especially the part about being given a flower, an orchid is a flower. My guess is that he's really into this girl and does nice things for her like gives her flowers and even kisses her, but she acts oblivious that he's interested in her. What turns the orchid blue is her attitude. She takes something white, symbolizing innocence, purity, peace, love, and takes it to mean something else, turns it blue, symbolizing sadness, coldness, emotionless, etc. He asks her how old she is because she's acting immature, or at least really naive, which is also like how a child would act. The reaction she got was either him being into her, or him being mad and frustrated because she doesn't return his interests. He ties to do all these things to show her how he feels, but she just doesn't accept them for what they are, that's why there is no pleasing her and why she thinks that he's just teasing (joking with) her.

W00T new stripes song, the guitar is great. Anyways to the meaning, erm i agree with TheSyndicate88 but i also think it has something to do with the Jason Stollsteimer (Von Bondies) incident. Probs has another meaning to it, ws songs are never straight forward.

Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
