This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. I was told this song was written about a few of his friends. Which I thought pretty much made sense. One of his friends being someone who had just recently died.

Ive actually had a chance to talk to the guys in This Day And Age, and Jeff told me that this song was written about when he lost 3 people very close to him when he was a child. Its an optimistic song about being strong in the face of such pain and being able to accept the things that are out of our hands. Its really an incredible song
