Oh Horatio

I met horatio five years ago
outside of munich on the way to rome
it was 45 degrees and i could barely breathe
He waved and said hey come sit by me
I was scared at first cos when he spoke it wasn't very soft
he told me about the life long love of his heart
had a t-shirt on that said we're all gonna die alone
I still believe that's true oh i truly do

I want you to notice
I want you to care
oh horatio
oh horatio

I want you to notice
I want you to care
oh horatio
please don't go
please don't go

he was 22 unemployed with a perfect smile
on his way to paris no i never asked why
his english was as bad as mine but i will
remember those hours for the rest of my days

I want you to notice
I want you to care
oh horatio
oh horatio

I want you to notice
I want you to care
oh horatio
please don't go
please don't go

oh horatio

..repeat and fade out

I think the chorus is something he wrote before they wrote rest of the song:D The chorus sound like some kind of a "notice-me-love-song"

This is one amazing song... In my opinion the best piece of music that was released in 2004 - or maybe even the best piece music released since 2004. It is a not a try to capture or figure out the meanings of life - but it's a nearly perfect 'photography' of a moment, and a summer's feelings. Isn't it you can nearly feel the heat of that day, the smell of warm concrete, and kilometres of motorways in between Munich and Rome. And, the main thing, the longing to keep something that nearly already has gone.

I first heard that song one night before a two year-long relationship split up, and I kept days listening over and over to 'I want you to notice, I want you to care', somewhere outside of Munich, on the way to Rome, where I lived in those days. And 'I'll remember those hours for the rest of my days'. Thanks, Mr. Kellerman. ;)

I love this song, and I have a pretty good idea what it may be about.

Horatio is some random guy a person meets one day in Rome. (Might even be a personal experience of the singer). This guy that Tiger Lou is singing about might have no friends, or find it hard to make friends "his english was as bad as mine" hence why he might not be able to make freinds.

So when he meets Horatio, he is slightly scared, as he sayd his voice "wasn't very soft." but when he starts speaking to Horatio he feels they have a very strong connection, and feels he can connect to him, and wants Horatio to share his own feelings with him. One feeling they both have in common is "we're all gonna die alone" and the guy "still believe that's true" becasue after then incident of Horatio leaving to Paris he has never met anyone he could bond with again.

The guy misses Horatio hence the corus "I want you to notice I want you to care oh horatio oh horatio

I want you to notice I want you to care oh horatio please don't go please don't go" He wants him to listen to him and not to leave because he'll miss him. But he'll always remeber Horatio "for the rest of my days"

So basically it;s about a guy who meetings a really intresting person one day named Horatio, and he feels he can connect with him really well, and wants to become good freinds with him. But when Horatio says he's going to go to Paris, the man feels a little let down (at the time when he's talking to Horatio) and doesn't want to continue the convosation about Paris, but now, as he sings the song he wishs he had. So he misses Horatio and wants him to know and wants him to care like he cares.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
