It's way too late to think of
Someone I would call now
And neon signs got tired
Red eye flights help the stars out
I'm safe in a corner
Just hours before me

I'm waking with the roaches
The world has surrendered
I'm dating ancient ghosts
The ones I made friends with
The comfort of fireflies
Long gone before daylight

And if I had one wishful field tonight
I'd ask for the sun to never rise
If God leant his voice for me to speak
I'd say go to bed, world

I've always been too late
To see what's before me
And I know nothing sweeter than
Champagne from last New Years
Sweet music in my ears
And a night full of no fears

But if I had one wishful field tonight
I'd ask for the sun to never rise
If God passed a mic to me to speak
I'd say stay in bed, world
Sleep in peace

the fact that there's so little attention given to this album makes it even more special for me, as each and every song is so beautifully compelling and 3.45 No Sleep is a prime example. on top of that, the quality of the recording is irreproachable and when you put all the pieces together this album has everything it takes to be one of the all-time classics. I can see myself listening to it 20 years from now with the same delight.

    It is a beautiful song.

The character is aware of the true lateness and emptiness of the world at the moment. Her first instinct is to calll someone to talk but then she starts to enjoy the serenity. She wants it to stay. It's as though she is the only person in the world right now. Savor aloneness.

"and I know nothing sweeter than champagne from last new year's" BEST LYRIC!!!! Express memories of good moments that you've shared, like a bottle of champagne almost empty the day after New Year.

I think it's about being stuck in a moment that you wish you wouldn't end.

Or being stuck in a memory you wish you wouldn't end, but it's as though, going to bed, and waking with a new day will dilute or delete the memory.

We've all had those 345 moments when you should be in bed, but your mind/heart won't switch off.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
