Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
Did we miss the moon?
I'd lie in your arms if I could
Such a common pain
Repeats itself again and again
Flowers grow in the springtime and leaves fall from the trees
I've been GONE for so long, you just threw away the keys
I understand it, but I don't want it
I know it so well, you tripped me and I laughed when you fell
This isn't how it should be
I've let you drift so far, from me
But please hold onto the memories
Before we really crash and burn
We've got ourselves so wrapped up that we've forgotten how to learn
I understand it, but I don't want it
I'd lie in your arms if I could
Such a common pain
Repeats itself again and again
Flowers grow in the springtime and leaves fall from the trees
I've been GONE for so long, you just threw away the keys
I understand it, but I don't want it
I know it so well, you tripped me and I laughed when you fell
This isn't how it should be
I've let you drift so far, from me
But please hold onto the memories
Before we really crash and burn
We've got ourselves so wrapped up that we've forgotten how to learn
I understand it, but I don't want it

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,
Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
Another BRILLIANT ween track... I don't know if I'm reading too much into it, but to me, it seems like a relationship has broken down, and it's written from the point of view of the partner that didn't want to see it end "I understand it, but I don't want it"... It seems that the person knows that they didn't do everything they could to salvage the relationship, but isn't willing to accept all of the blame. It's a top song and if you haven't heard it I'd recommend it... Along with a dose of "(it's gonna be) alright". We've all been wherethese songs are about.... Crackin' man!
Gener has said this song has a lot to do with his divorce, which was going on around the time they were writing Quebec. His wife, Sarah, and him were splitting, and they had known each other since he was around 19. He pretty much said every love song he wrote was about her, starting with "Oh My Dear (I'm Falling In Love" and ending with "I Don't Want It." Pretty sad.
i feel a definate connection to this one. especially with the way he puts some emotion into his words, different from most ween songs. i listen to this one alot right now. to me this song is about a very strong relationship, with many memories, that fell apart, it dosent matter how it ended, it just did. the girl has moved on, starting new things, and he feels that she is forgetting what they had, and he can't get over her. Thats what the song means to me, it's also my exact situation right now...
I know what you mean...with the connection thing.
Shitty times.
:(
Ya know, you other people are probably right about the break-up thing...but this song speaks to me a little different...so this is my take on it.
I think it's about the woman he loves moving on, and not caring about him as much as she once did. The line, "I've been gone for so long, You just threw away the keys" is probably referring to him being on tour or something, and coming back, and she just doesn't have the same connection with him as she once did. Perhaps they were trying, but it just wasn't working...and she was thinking about leaving him. The lyrics "Please hold onto the memories, Before we really crash and burn" backs my theory, because that would imply that they haven't ended it quite yet.
I've listened to this song repeatly today...and it gives me a little bit of strength...because I'm going through something just like this...and this is the perfect song for me and my other.
I hope he does hold on to the memories...cause I really don't want it. :(
One of the most beautiful songs ive ever heard!.......seriously
you can't forget the lead guitar in this...you just can't gosh darnit!
The riff has sooo been lifted from 'Starship Trooper' by Yes...but that guitar solo kicks ass and is all Deaner's work. Gorgeous song.
it's about how he knows that life doesn't have meaning and he understands it but he doesn't want it
There's no way that this is the same band who once performed songs with titles like "Licking the Palm for Guava," "Mister Would You Please Help My Pony," and "Spinal Meningitis (got me down)"
welcome to the greatness that is ween.
Yeah, it was Gener's chronic drug-abuse and the long touring dates that brought an end to his relationship. The whole Quebec album is very dark and about the fragility of human emotions. Gener wrote most the album himself and his raw emotion is evident on the Caesar Demos, which is the previously unreleased stuff from the Quebec era Deaner just brought out.
