As far back as it goes
We watched the time roll by
And say our mother's names with a smile
Remember how she sang you a lullaby?
How'd she ever do such good for you?

Take me back where I used to live
I want to see my old friends and how they've changed
I always said that when I grew up
I would give my friends another chance
To see their lives rearranged
If they wanna see me,
I'm gonna be at the bottom of the hills
I'm gonna be standing with my back against the valley wall
I'm gonna look up at all the cool kids
Standing in their running shoes
I'm gonna walk away from all of that, all of that, all of them all

That's the last thing I can say about the future
(the future, the future, the future, the future...)
I don't really know much about what I'm gonna do when the days go by (go by, as they always do)
I guess all I (all I really know) really know
About where we're gonna go (where we're gonna go)
Is by looking at what I'm into
And I'm still looking at you

And I'm still looking at you
And I'm always looking for you
I'm still looking at you
Whenever I'm not, whenever I'm not
I'm looking for you
I'm looking for you

    General Commentmy favourite.

the narrator sounds a little cocky and sure of her self-worth saying she would give her friends another chance, describing herself as the one to go see. being able to look at the self-described cool kids and walk away from them.

but then her tone completely changes as she admits to her insecurity about the future, and the only thing she knows is to look at "you", or whoever she described since the beginning of the song, who was done so good by her mother, who she wants to take her back to her past, who she always wants to see.

    it's a sweet l0ve song.
